Year round spring over here.

I live in Southern California and I have to say that all you idiots bragging about our weather to these people in colder climates have no heart at all. My family lives in Manchester, England and I even resist telling them the truth about our fall and winter weather here. I feel for all you people waiting for the sunshine to get your bikes and warm weather gear back on the roads...almost there.

It's been cold here too, but I can deal with cold. I rode outside all winter. What's killing me is that it's cold, cloudy, and the wind has been 15+mph every day for the past two weeks. I'll go on the group ride tomorrow morning, but every time I think about going out solo, I end up going to the gym instead :)

We are the same here... we have had almost two weeks of constant wind of 15+ mph with gusting up to 30 mph. The other day I got almost blown off the bike twice, and when I got home and checked the weather, the wind gust was up to 45 mph. I can deal with cold, up to a point (like in the teens) but am so sick of the wind...

You know it is only March in the northern hemisphere ... it's not June yet. :)

When I go fishing in June there will be 5-10 feet of ice piled on the shores. But that's pretty normal for the north. Then we will have two decent months before it starts freezing again.
Al Gore promised me warming and I want to hold him to it:)

Yeah, exactly ... so if there will still be some ice and snow in June, of course there's going to be ice and snow in March. :)

Sounds like you really need to take a pt job to save some money to take a month in a warmer climate sometime between November and March. Doing that really helped me from going completely crazy when I lived in Canada.

Visit Puerto Rico :D

I pay $$$ for the privilege of living in a climate where I can boast about the weather. :) I suffered enough in cold weather, it is my reward.

I did wear my long riding pants 6-7 times this past "winter". The agony.

The other thing I did when I lived in Canada was to get into cross-country skiing and snowshoeing ... if you can't beat winter, join it. :)

The cliche around here is "You don't like the weather? stick around, it'll change." Tomorrow we might see 45. Sunday they're calling for 6 to 10 inches of snow.

Not sure where spring is, but it definitely is not hiding in New Hampshire

We’ve been about 15 deg. below normal for the last month. I was riding in 35 deg weather today, should be about 50.I always hated March because I think that it should be the beginning of spring; it’s really the end of winter.

I was beginning to feel sorry for myself until some of you reminded that there is a Canada. Summer will be nice, you just have to be in town that weekend. Scout camp had a mo-skeet activity – trap using 22s. Do Canadians have moskeeter shooting?

I used to live in Minneapolis for about 5 years. Winters were about 6 weeks longer than what I was used to in Iowa. The saving grace was that there was enough snow to actually enjoy winter sports. X-C skiing, snow shoeing, broomball, etc. It didn’t surprise me to see inter-scholastic X-C skiing, but I still haven’t recovered from the shock of girls ice hockey.

I hear ya, man. It's some seriously bull****. I'm hopeful that April will come in and we'll have an instant transition to summer weather.

Spring is in full bloom here in AZ.

The aroma of orange blossoms fills the air I breath, and the desert is so green it looks like a fairway at Augusta.

Exactly, we've had a beautiful spring so far.

I always thought that Spring started on March 21. ;)

Dawn of the new ice age, actual spring weather will be around in a few thousand years.

JimF22003 03-23-13 04:36 AM

Yesterday on the Blue Ridge Parkway, about 23 degrees:

Langhorne, Pa. Northeast part: 27 degree's F, sunny, slight wind must do another 23 miles. Did 20 last night after work, 36 F, windy.
My front derailure (Sram Red) came loose at 17 miles and binded up chain..........unclipped, jury rigged a fix to get home and took it off. I don't really use a frnt d for my rides anyway.

COLD COLD COLD

I hear it's been unseasonably very hot over there. Tri friends that did the IM 70.3 over there a few weeks ago did their worst times ever.

Of course the sun is out now so maybe soon.

Is there a way to get BF to just show the full size image if uploading from a computer (i.e. not hosting somewhere)? It always does the mini attachment.

MetalPedaler 03-24-13 10:13 AM

Here, we had a mild winter...now in March, when it usually starts warming up, it's been cold and windy...and we're expecting snow!! Thought I'd be riding a few times a week by now....but I've been riding less this month than in January and February!

Actually I was reading an article that stated the cause of the colder temperatures prolonging into spring here in the US was actually because of global warming. It had something to do with the weather in Greenland being warmer than usual and affecting the jetstream. Now the jetstream is bringing in the cold air from Canada over most of the US, where as before when Greenland stayed cold at this time of the year it would push the jetstream to bring in our warmer air. Hope this is not the new norm....

I too am growing very impatient. I do the cold rides, but I feel like I've been counting the days since winter started and now it's just plain unfair...with 1-3 of snow forecasted for Tuesday here in NJ. Fortunately the last few snow falls have disappeared within a few days.

alexaschwanden 03-24-13 10:44 AM

In Palo Alto, CA the weather is improving so spring is pretty much here.

nymtber 03-24-13 08:09 PM

I bought a new bike this year, so spring will take longer to get to me. Last year by this time I already had something like 60 miles in, because last winter was hardly more than a long colder fall!

I don't ride if its under 50 anyway. Too cold and cycling is about t-shirts and shorts to me. I can deal with a jacket or sweatshirt, but has to be warm enough for shorts. Same reason I prefer fishing when its 70 or warmer out!

halfspeed 03-24-13 08:28 PM

Normal temperatures by the end of the week? Can it be so?

ricohman 03-25-13 05:52 AM

Blah.
-27 this morning.
At least it not snowing. I was riding last year at this time. That is not the norm, but then neither is this.

Funny when it's hot, some people say it's global warming. Then when it's cold, the same say global warming.

Wonder if they know the term "average"?

Canadian_giant 03-25-13 07:34 AM

Starting to dry up a bit here in Quebec but there is salt, dirt and potholes on the side of the roads. Took out my hybrid with fenders on the weekend and came home filthy. Won't be taking out the road bike for a few more weeks.
