Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2012 Orbea Aqua TPX, any one got one or checked them out? Considering buying one.

Someone posted a link to Art's Cyclery selling these bikes for $999, with a 15% discount bringing the price to $850 with free shipping. The bike is beautiful. It has full SRAM Apex. I currently ride a 2006 Specialized Allez Expert with full Ultegra. Does anyone have one of these bikes or similar? I have only ridden with Shimano components but the idea of the SRAM isn't daunting to me. They have my size (54cm) but I have never ridden an Orbea (have no local dealers). I have had this thing in my "cart on the site for 3 days, I'm hoping to decide today. Yeah, I know I'm being indecisive. As far as riding, I am a recreational rider that logs about 80-120 miles a week. I want to start doing some long charity rides and hope to complete my first century this summer. I am interested in possibly racing some next year and have a couple of group rides within an hour from home. I guess I am asking for input on the quality of the bike and the quality of the deal. Thanks for any input.

I would say that this is a decent deal. I ride an Orca Gold, their top of the line frameset and it is wonderful but it is also high mod carbon and this bike that you are looking at is aluminum, so it will not provide as comfortable a ride. The aluminum frame will be plenty stiff however. Can you 1. test ride this and other models from other manufactures? 2. get a proper fitting so that you order the correct size frame, stem, crank arms for you?

there was one hanging up in my LBS for awhile....i had intended on saving up the $1,500.

when i got to $1,300, i found a brand new carbon GT on the local craigslist, with SRAM force, for that much. ended up with that instead.

i had lusted over this orbea for awhile, but if you check out some other retailers, you might be able to upgrade yourself to a carbon frame, or maybe rival/force components. especially now since everyone is probably closing out their 2012 stock. even with that in mind, $850 for an aluminum bike with apex is a great deal. i wonder how much 2013 models cost...

OP - What is it that you are looking to improve over your Allez? Your Allez is an E5 frame which is very nice.
