Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Newbie needs help - 2013 TRek 1.2 or 2012 Giant Defy2

Hello All,

New to this forum and bike riding as well. Started off with a budget of $500 but quickly decided to double it to $1000. I could get a 2013 Trek 1.2 for $950 or a Giant Defy 2 for $700. I like the price of the Giant but the look of the Trek. Both bikes seem to be great. All I know is that the gears have changed on the 2013 but does than make a difference? If you had to decide which one would you choose and why. I don't want to get buyers remorse if I go for the cheaper one.

Thank You all

Did you ride either of them? If so, how'd the ride feel? If not, why not?

I bought a trek 1.2 back in 2008 and have been happy with it. I'll be upgrading next year, but I dont think you can really go wrong with either bike.

I got the trek 1.2 last week it was more comfortable than the others. It didn't put my lower back at as sharp of a curve. Also the 1.2 has a com outer in the fork. You have to buy the display seperate. There are two versions to the bike. One with a compact two gear system kn the front and one with three in the front. I got the one with the three cost me about $1000. If you do pick the trek remove the plastic tag on the front fork or you'll think you have a trashed wheel when riding.
