Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you give the finger to a funeral procession, what's the likelihood of a road rage chase?

Reminds me of a Jeff Foxworthy etiquette tip for rednecks, "never burn rubber while in a funeral procession".

Well that's confusing... the deceased is supposed to stop when a funeral procession goes by?

Being born and raised in the South this has been a long time tradition. As some have said "no need to honor the tradition" and there is no law forcing you to...it just depends on where you are on the ladder of civilized courtesy. The anger they felt might be equivalent to the truck that passes and only gives you 2'6" while and nearly blows you into the ditch. By the way do you rush to a door in public to beat the elderly lady there or so you can hold it open for her?

What? This is crazy talk!
I would say this is more of a tradition in small towns in the south - maybe elsewhere. I'm guessing it started where there are a lot of single-lane dirt roads. Pull over and make room and let the dust settle for the funeral procession. Its also a big deal in some circles to wash your car and have it all clean and shiny for a funeral. They are weird traditions, perhaps with no meaning, but when in Rome...

The anger might be equiv, but the analogy is not. I certainly posed no danger to a motorized procession coming the opposite way; not even an inconvenience....

My tradition says to keep it to myself and not act like a hooligan, respect other people, and not concern myself with what others do as long as they obey the law.

This begs a diff question - anyone ever seen a procession of cyclists for another rider (such as motorcyclists do)?

Quick- somebody die so we can try it.

This is also how its done in FL. Just try not to break up those in the procession since some might not have local familiarity with the roads and location of the cemetery. It sounds like the OP was drawing attention by riding between the cars pulling over and the funeral procession going the other way. Sounds like it wasn't rude, but a bit dangerous with the cars who pulled over now having to deal with this cyclist do their own TT.

You first. That procession may be very short, though

Then I propose that you rush to a door in public to beat an elderly lady thru so she will not hold you up rather than to hold the door for her to assist. You are posing no danger to her not even an inconvenience....
