Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Feels pretty good.....got in a quick 10 before lunch. We are pretty flooded here in Iowa so my usual trail is closed.....but other than getting used to the shifting I was pleased. Really noticed a difference on the hills.

didnt really get on it speed wise first time out so I don't die, but by the end of the 10 i felt used to the feel of a road bike. Was thinking of aero bars before but now I don't think I will.....feel pretty comfortable where I fell onto the bars.

thought I'd let y'all know......thanks to everybody for your help. Really appreciated all the advice.

id post a pic if I could figure out how on an iPad.....stupid thing
Glad to hear you made a decision. BTW, what is gel?

Good to hear. I got another 11 miles or so on mine Friday, the hottest day of the year for us so far. It felt REALLY good, and when I turned around the first 1.5 miles I was able to get a good cadence going and just cruised. Sadly, the chain jumped the chainring on an upshift in the front within the first 1/2 mile.

I recently bought the WSD equivalent of the Trek 1.1 for my teenage daughter, the entry level Lexa. It's a good bike. When I can drag her away from the TV long enough to ride it, she really enjoys it.

Minor update......got in my first 20+ miler........felt pretty good. 1:24:08 which isnt great but i also got lost twice, had to walk it around 2 closed gates and it rained for 5 of the miles..hah.

Butt isnt sore...but got an interesting twinge in the front part of my knees....probably common for that much use thats unfamiliar.

glad to hear you are putting the bike to good use. keep an eye on that knee pain. pain in the front of the knee could be a fit issue - saddle too low perhaps. not saying to start adjusting things, just osmething to keep in mind.

Plan to, I can keep riding but need to be careful how far I push the lever on the shift to the large chainring.
