I'm in!
That will be a good foundation to build upon in April and May. Our state championships are in early June.
The thousand miles in March will be great for shedding a few pounds as well as building base fitness. This averages out to roughly 32 miles per day...if you rode 7 days a week. The way to make it work is to do some really long rides on the weekends. Yes I will be counting my trainer time.

So far in February I am getting about 6-7 hours of road work each weekend, which = about 110-120 miles a weekend, so that would be close to a 500 mile month (assuming no rain high temp lower than freezing...!!!). I don't think I can double that even with trainer/stationary miles. I don't do 1000 mile months in the summer....700 maybe.
So, I must respectfully decline...
Though I will do as much riding as I can!
Edit.... it has been snowing since mid-day, expecting 6-8".....does skiing count?

My god am I going to get shelled.

I had an old "multiplier" system when I lifted weights (doing legs was kind of like doing hills....I hated it but is was good for me )
I gave myself points for every set of weights I did.
The more difficult sets (legs) got the most points (3). Compound upper body excercises got (2) points and isolation exercises got (1) point.
There should be a way I can score gains in elevation the same way. Anyway I did stuff like that to keep me motivated and to make it a competition with myself.

hmm...
i get about 140/month commuting...and i've been trying to get at least 18 in on my days off...i might get up to like, 300 this month...i need to ride more. damn work. damn rain.
maybe i'll try to make my commute longer...like maybe 10 miles there, 3 miles home...then i'd get 260 commuting miles...but then i'd have to ride my road bike to work...every day. maybe when i get my touring bike built up.

Looking back through my log I put in 703 miles in December, then travel put a MAJOR crimp in my riding plans after that.
I'll only be out of town for 4 days in March so I think I'll take it on.
I think it will make for a great goal for the month that I turn 38.

1000 miles sounds like a good goal, but since I just shoveled my driveway for the second time in a week it may be tough. Weather permitting though....

I use a Polar 720i to record vertical gain. It's a very nice unit, the PC software is decent, and the Polar support is excellent.

Wait, I screwed up...it's 1610 km's. Ummm...that's 400 km's a week. Can be done, but now I'm not so sure with my schedule. Maybe I'll just make it a 1000 km month. See me later in the year about the 1000 mile month.

Sign me up ... after Sunday I'll have a 200 mile week . Bagged work yesterday and did a lake WA loop ... first one of the year! Last 5 hurt (ran out of gel) but I managed to creep up the mountain to my house nonetheless.
