Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Starter Bike. HELP!!

Howdy,

I would like to know what to look for in a starter bike and what brands I should be looking for. I would really like to start cycling but I don't have my own bike so I want to buy one. Help me, please!

I was looking at a Giant OCR1 for $300. Any opinions on this bike?

Thanks & Gig'em!

Hey jakaaa,

Welcome to Bike Forums.

Brands are not as important as buying from a friendly shop.

Some of us started with a used bike from Craigslist.

Size is most important.

Thank you!

I've found so many bikes on Craigslist, I just didn't really know what too look for like the components and stuff.

I saw that bike but it is too big for me.

Would you mind giving me your opinion on these bikes:

There's just too many bikes!

Agree, the Giant looks nice, air up the tires and adjust the saddle.

agree and emphasis added... if size is too small / large then the bike is not a good deal, it's a no-deal.
