Time spent in the drops?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If I'm not climbing, I'm on the drops.

For recreational riding this seems like a good idea, even, because you have even more relaxed tops that way.
In a more race oriented geometry, though, the saddle to bar drop is 10 centimeters (4 inches) and more.
This means that your drops are about as aggressive a position as my tops.
That may be, I don't doubt it. Setting the bike up the way I have it has allowed me to use every position on the bar effectively and comfortably. I actually find the drops to be very comfortable, but anything lower would be pointless for me.

If I was only using the drops like 2% of the time, I would wonder why they are even there.

Probably about 10% in the drops overall, close to 0% when riding on a MUP, higher on the streets. My saddle to bar drop is 7 cm.

Indeed.
That is exactly the reason why I wonder why so many people have drop bars in the first place as they never seem to use them.

On my new road/tri bike I'm about 20% in the drops, 20% on the aerobar, 20% on the tops and 40% on the hoods with about 11cm of saddle to bar drop.

I slammed and dropped my 1-1/8" stem on my Schwinn for a tri a few months ago to stick a pair of aero are on. The aeros have since come off, but the bike still has maximum drop, so I'm on the tops/hoods most of the time when riding, but even when trying to push it on the flats I ride the Invisible Aeros.

I tried to recreate that on my quill-stem Bianchi. Got fed up with it, and raised the bars again (easier procedure than messing with the stem on the other bike. I spend a lot more time on the drops on that one.

Rarely.... my saddle to bar drop is so significant that me riding on the hoods is like most people riding on their drops. Plus, I actually find it more aero to rest my wrists on the hood/bar while holding onto the top piece of the hoods with my elbows almost at 90 degrees.

They're nice to have in order to stretch out the shoulders once in a while on long rides.

That said, I've also done long rides with bullhorn bars (on both our tandem and a single bicycle) and they're quite comfortable too.

HAHA...I've seen people with bars higher than the saddle riding in the drops the whole time.

I might go into the drops on a rare occasion on a long ride to stretch.

Ditto. I was in the drops yesterday for a very short time, during a 75-mile ride. Feel stretched out enough on the hoods, use the drops to change positions and to tuck on occasion, but not too often.
