Sillly bike rational in order to get in that extra ride.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I will do most anything to fit in an extra ride...
Like say, gotta make a call...Ride 16 miles to a nearby town where the call is a local call on the pay phones...OR, get my Oro Blanco grapefruit direct from the grove, even though my panniers will only carry maybe 5 grapefruit. Then finding out, they don't have them this year.....OR going to the post office...Means riding to a town 19 miles away so it will be local delivery and that way one day service.
or paying the bills by riding to a drop box far away , when we buy stamps by the roll of 100...
or choosing your bike shop far away, so you can take a long ride, instead of going to the one down the street; because you think they have a better selection of brand x and like the staff better- when all you are wanting is a $5 item and it costs .76 cents less elsewhere...all it costs that way is human energy.
anyone else think like this..at least some of the time.

Mailboxes in my apt. complex are about 25 yd. from my apartment.
The corner store (good for caffeine fix) is about 100 yd. from my apartment.

Oh yeah. To the mailbox, to the gas station, to the grocery store (just a block away.) I'd ride to the living room if my cycling shoes weren't in there already.

part of the thing..Guess a way of telling my wife...Look how I used my bike for something productive...When she notices I have been gone for most of the day and the grass is still uncut.

I just tell my wife, "My arteries are getting clogged from that dinner you made. I need to go work it off before I throw up and have a heart attack."

Next thing, I'm out the door before you know it. Of course, it gets slammed behind me. But, who cares?

Just kidding, she's actually a fabulous cook. As a result, I eat too much, and still have to go for a good ride to burn it off. So, either way, I somehow find a reason to get my rides.

You're going to have to drink a LOT of coffee to get much exercise at only 100 yds. at a time.

Diet coke for me...but yeah, with enough caffeine I can burn 1000 calories in 100 yards. I'm thinking of maybe some tri bars and aero spokes, or all-out to a carbon frame with Dura-Ace with a 53-10T for the downhill bit. I'll still need a triple for the speed bump though.

Red Hair..seems your favoring a light frame...What style bike for your commute to the mail box...? Mountain bike..Might be rough terrain...too bad...70 years ago, mail delivery was even like twice a day..that would really put a strain on you....
One of my worst attributes of my cycling addiction..Can't get a doctors/dentist appointment at a time not interferring with my needed bike time...Then have to wait until next month..The nerve of those doctors, not considering my needs with their schedules.
Have to have either early morning or later afternoon doctors appointments...Things like Tax specialists..really low priority. Glad my wife is the grown up in the household.

Yeah. I've wondered: why do we work when the sun is shining? 90% of us sit in an office without even a window. Work is for when it's dark.

Yes, I'm afraid you have a problem.
The way to overcome this phobia is to face it like a cyclist.
Get out there on that bike and don't come home for two hours.
It's ok to feel a little guilty for ignoring your family.
Now go forth....

commuting is obviously a great way of getting extra miles in, but......

I once hid my bike in the trunk of my car at a wedding, and went for a ride between
the wedding service and the reception!!

I think a great idea for a wedding is for the bride/groom to ride up to their nupitals on a tandem...Black tie optional..then ride off into the sunset.Think they make those fake T shirt tux's in spandex..?
.I always get home before dinner...Sometimes, it would have been better if I had remember my light , however..at least in the winter season.
I do commute to work..Just need to do such daily and then I would be just fine..Can't right now as of my present situation..maybe later in life..as of now, about 1/3 of the time...
