Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2001 Dura ace versus 2005 tiagra?

Can anybody tell me how comparable these are and which would be better? Neglecting wear and tear or whatever, but if you were to buy both at the same price, which would perform better?

Rear derailleurs specifically I guess if it helps.

Thanks

I had the same question when I was looking for a used road bike, 55/Rad. Like in this old craigslist ad:

Now, I'd ask what year and everything, but assuming a groupset was well taken care of, have there been any killer developments in the last 4 years that have shown up in Tiagra? (After all, it's 9sp). How easy would this be to get replacement parts? etc.
I held out for a newer groupset 'cause I'm chicken.

Oh right, forgot to ask about that. Specifically it's 8 speed Dura-Ace with STI Shifters and i would guess it's from 2000 or 20001 and it has only been ridden 1 season. You guys got any advice on purchasing this or not?

Thanks
