Funny, just this morning I was thinking about how I'm going to build my old 5200 back up into a winter/beater/commuter/training bike. Great old bike, they handed them out with our JD's at graduation.

Perhaps the better question is why do we belittle other peoples choices? Is it as rpenmanparker put it, "Face it, it is the Bike Forums equivalent of middle school bullying. The parallels between adolescent school clique behavior and bicycling poserism are amazing." Unfortunately that seems to be the case. Every forum, every industry trade paper, and every industry media outlet I read has it's share of negative comments, boo birds, and/or people who choose to belittle other peoples choices or ideas. I just don't get it. Ride your Trek, Specialized, C'Dale, Giant, or Huffy where you want, and how you want. It's your choice, your money, and your time. Suum cuique. Sorry to interrupt, I'll go back to work now. In this epistle this gem was nested. I am still laughing. Nobody's aluminum bike touches the quality of the tubing on a CAAD10 which is why Cannondale offers a $3,500 bike on that frame. You won't find many $3,500 aluminum bikes for sale these days. Wow. |

I think that Treks are tecnologically well made bikes that give you a lot of bang for the buck. As someone has already mentioned, however, their color schemes tend to run on the garish side. My first "real" bike was a Trek. I loved Trek, I told everyone to buy a Trek.
When LA started winning I liked to point out that he rode Trek too. Then Trek did me wrong on a warranty claim. They were not nice about it either. I stopped talking about Trek, nothing positive or negative. Then they did the owner of my favorite LBS wrong. When asked, I suggest other brands. If they ask about Trek specifically, I convince them not to buy Trek. Since November of last year I have talked 11 people out buying Trek. All that aside, I think Trek's are ugly. Especially their road bikes. |
There are two types of bike customers:
1. Those that buy on and for performance. 2. Those that buy due to looks. There is little overlap amongst these groups. And on this forum, riders who do not own what you are discussing automatically say whateveer they don't own sucks. It defends their purchase. Been that way for years. It's one of the things that defines this place. And if you are riding pro stuff, none of it sucks. As for me, I ride what I ride due to relationships. Enjoy... |

Personally I don't care if anyone doped. I'm pretty sure that I would have doped to win, if that was the only way I could beat the best riders of the era. |

If the op thinks treks are bashed, just bring up Rivendell.
Treks would be bashed much less if they weren't being ridden everywhere. They are very common bikes and common is going to take a little heat. |
