i reconfirmed my TREK purchase today. I went to BOTH, count them, BOTH bike shops in my town looking for road shoes. The store which I didn't buy from (specialized, felt, raleigh) didn't have any help for me with my problem wide feet. I continued down the road to the store where I purchased my bike and the "road guy" came out and gave me a tutorial on different shoes, cleat types, pedal types, and pro's and con's of each. Then he found a shoe that fits my size 12 EEEE foot and it was $100 less than I was willing to pay.
What does that say about TREK... Nothing.. It's just another reason that nobodies brand should be downtrodden as none of us really know the circumstances in which they bought the bike. I guess, if you take it to another level anyone that buys a bike NOT from a big box store should be commended as they are actually preserving the sport for the die-hard enthusiast by keeping the cash flow going at the LBS. Quite a few have seen me posting now that I'm a member of the forum but those of you who have been here know how new to all this I am. I'm not justifying "my" purchase as I have been confident in my choices and have no worry. I'm more trying to relay a different perspective for those that feel that any other choice but trek is the best choice. Be happy, spend your money as you wish, ride your bike, and let others do the same. I do like this forum... gets a little fiesty in here and then I take it out on my old lady later. |

A $4100 aluminum road bike- now I'm LMAO I'll just stick to my 1985 C'Dale ST500 and my Scalpel 29er. For some you might was well be talking about quantum physics. Most of the guys I know that race went for the 10 because of performance and it is alos not a hugely expensive frame to replace. I could explain it, but it will fall on deaf ears. |

I ride a Trek road and 29er. I actually went through 2 other road bikes first because I did not want a TREK since they are everywhere and I wanted something different.
BUT, the bottom line is....... the Trek WSD bikes fit my body best and are most comfortable. So there it is. If it fits--ride it -- you can always repaint it, if you don't like the looks anyway. |

I think ill.clyde, Bikedud, merlinextraligh, Hiro11 and BoJaffa said it best already but I'll throw my two cents in anyways. People like to bash Trek because they're one of the biggest bike companies in the world. Trek's so popular and commonplace that they're not "cool" anymore. People think less popular brands are sexier because they're harder to find. I'm guilty of this myself. The reality is that most bikes, regardless of the company, are made in Taiwan. At least Trek is a American company and still makes some of their bikes in the United States. That should be worth something. Also, I think the color scheme on the 2014 Trek models are great but if you don't like them, with Project One you can choose your own paint scheme. The bottom line is don't worry too much about the brand. Find a LBS that you like and deal with them regardless of the brands they sell.

I could give two left nutts about them being a big company. I could also care less if they are a popular or a common bike on the streets. My opinion has NOTHING to do with that. I dont care for trek because I dont like the way they look. That also has nothing to do with how it performs. Everyone is going to have their own preference in anything you can purchase that has competitive brands. Red bull, rockstar, monster or Toyota, Honda or Nissan. They are all good companies, it is simply a matter of what grabs you to purchase one or the other.

They tend to have a tall headtube (depending on size, but essentially anything over a 52-54 in a trek looks tall IMO) and then everything is angled down from there. Its like it was being built and some 350lbs guy came and sat on it to be funny and "smooshed" it. I also dislike the seat post that sits ON TOP of the frame which gives it an odd line from the frame to the saddle since the tubing to the post has to be larger than the frame to fit on it. I know DaveWC loves his trek and I'm happy for him. but look at it above, everything from the headtube slopes down. Different strokes for different folks. I just dont like them. |
