Gear setup recommendation for beginners

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The important ones to me are in the 70-90 gear inch range. I would love to have a 16 & 18 between the 15,17,19. But, I'm not going 11spd for just one of those.

Well, my current range may be due to my hybrid (with panniers, backrack, fenders, etc.) weighing 40 lbs. lol

Maybe one of these days one of my bicycle projects will be done. (Then I'll be able to ride a decent bike.)
