Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Have a beignet and it'll all be OK.

Damn, I forgot about that. The excess isn't really excessive until you start on the beignets. This afternoon for sure after the black eyed peas, cabbage, and andouille. Let's see what else could I have forgotten.

That said, I'm never hungry first thing in the morning, and it's a mighty slippery slope to start forcing myself to eat when I'm not hungry.

........you can do this. I've done it for 64 years and I still know where I'm going and how to get home.

When you get too old to remember how to get home without the phone, just get someone to pin a note to your shirt.
yeah, it's just interesting to me how technology becomes such a crutch. i used to be really good at finding my way around and had a good sense of direction. that mostly went down the ****ter after a few years of having a phone that does everything. it's so dumb that we're so dependent on technology. the detox will be good for us.

That's pretty sweet - extra heavy-duty for leather?

Wife and I found an old Singer (in a table) at a Salvation Army for $45 a few years back. About $5 worth of parts from ebay and it runs like a champ.

yep. taking over part of a friend's business since she's retiring. leather lettering and logos for racers.

i'm not sure it's going to pay our mortgage, but i already have a list of customers who need stuff. people freaked out when she announced her retirement, and she's training me. should be fun. i need to throttle this thing back though before i sew through my hand.

a friend brought it over. it was sitting in a warehouse for the past 7 years. he saved it from a dumpster. it's on permanent loan for as long as i need it. he's got a cylinder bed machine available too.

Forget the Bible Belt and the Rust Belt, there's a new belt across the south - the Obese Belt or maybe just the Stretched Belt. BMI data from those states is scary.

Already pedaled 28 miles this year. There was glare ice on the MUP, but I #HTFU and kept going.

My 2014 fasting is still going strong.

Fasting is dumb.

Just back from the second round of running around the corn fields with Benson. Mid-teens, but at least the winds have calmed down. I need better gloves.

Lots better than one of my patients who gained an amount I thought mathematically and physiologically impossible- 75 lbs in 4 weeks- not water gain either.
