Actually, alloy has seen a resurgence for two reasons. The first are genuine advancements in processing the material (and an additive, or two) that make stronger alloy with longer fatigue life and the second is the supply of composites barely keeping pace with demand keeping pressure on pricing. (although there is a glut of low modulus Chinese carbon that has found its way into the bike industry, among others).

Apparently you haven't heard about SmartweldŽ.

Of course I read facts about CF so I know all about the other side of the coin, but you refuse to read the other side of the coin in regards to the negatives of CF, I least I read both sides and understand the issues and made my decision based on those, you just made your decision by marketing pressures.

None of the links you posted contain facts. They are all editorial which is, by definition, opinion.

In fact, (yes, I meant it) in one article the author admits to not even owning a carbon bike but bases his opinion on the opinions of his customers. Second hand opinions are now facts?

Enjoy whatever bike you bought and I support your absolute right to freely choose to buy whatever you want for whatever reason but, based on your posts, facts were not involved in any way in your decision.

Hey guys I don't own a carbon bike but I met some cool dudes and they all told me they were on steel bikes because having a carbon one means that there's a 50/50 chance they won't make it back home alive on their next ride. They said carbon is a devil product created by the insurance companies as now whenever you apply for life insurance the first question they will ask is if you own a carbon bike. Ohh and also Obama loves carbon!

I'm a hyperweld™ holdout myself...

Carbon is just super ****ing ugly.

Lugged steel wins again.

Generally I hate to accuse people of projection, but....

What do you believe I have misunderstood?

I fully admit that if you run over a carbon tube with a truck it may break. I'm not sure what this has to do with the functional durability of bicycle frames, but you're free to expound.

I'm certain you could find many blogs to back that fact up, too!

Well it just makes sense, steel teeth would grind up carbon fiber.

LOL!! This is the most funny stuff dude, you should go write for the Jay Leno show. Oh, and to add to your absurity, steel crushes rock not the other way around, and steel drills through rock. That game never did make any sense...kind of like you!

Why would you want your bicycle frame to do any of those things?

coasting 01-15-14 09:38 AM

if carbon were so bad, why are all racers using carbon and not steel?

huh? well?

Comparing what a professional racer uses to what a consumer uses makes no sense. Even amateur racers have different needs.
