Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: 2013 Specialized Roubaix Sl4 Expert, 2008 Specialized Roubaix Elite

Lets see your Specialized Roubaix

I love the Roubaix and thought it should have it's own thread.
I'll start. Here is my 2013 Roubaix SL4 Expert. This is my second Roubaix, a nice step up from my 2008 Elite.

Pretty looking bike. But you might have more success just a couple of posts down, https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...9#post16434669

Here's my project Roubaix, which I just posted on the Specialized thread. Just waiting on cranks to show up now. I've affectionately named it Frankenstein, as it's a complete mismatch. The frame is labeled as an Elite, but has Fact 10r carbon like the SL3/4 Pro, has internal cable routing like an SL3/4/S-Works, has the 46mm carbon OSBB like an S-Works, and has from what I can tell a non-production color scheme. My LBS just scratched their heads when they saw it.

I will try to dig up a better picture of mine, but here's a start. It was delivered to my office as a gift, and I snapped this pic before I had the chance to adjust the saddle height and remove the dork disk.

I don't quite know the model but it's 2013 with full Ultegra.

p.s. extra credit if you can ID the poster in right side of the pic.

What does the Roubaix SL4 Sport 105 compare to? It only costs $1,900 - so is it comparable to the CAAD 10 with full 105? I think the CAAD 10 is about $1,700 retail. I think you can spend $1,900 on an Allez, so why not just get the Roubaix instead?

I am no expert but I think the Allez and CAAD are more racing oriented, while the Roubaix is more "comfort" oriented, still a great performer but a little cushier ride. The Allez shares geometry with the Tarmac.

I hope that helps.

^ on top of what he said, the Roubaix would compare directly with the synapse from C'dale. Assuming that an aluminum synapse with 105 is 1,700 just like the CAAD10 that means you would be paying $200 extra in the roubaix just for carbon frame. However, it is most likely that the 105 carbon synapse is probably 1900 bucks too...

I've actually been compiling a spreadsheet on this lately.

Roubiax is to Synapse Carbon is to Domane 4 series is to Giant Defy composite is to Fuji Gran Fondo
Secteur is to Synapse Alloy is to Domane 2 series is to Giant Defy is to Fuji Sportif

Tarmac is to Supersix is to Madone
Allez is to CAAD 10 is to Madone 2

equivalently spec'd components, the specialized is more expensive than the cannondale by around 15%.

Here's mine - 2012 SL3 frame with mostly Red on it. (I got the bare frame and put my own components from my old Roubaix on)

Your S-works seems to have an almost Tarmac like bend in the top tube up near the stem... is that just the light playing tricks on my eyes or is it actually different?

I'm new to the Roubaix game, though I've got.... 350 miles on it since this pic in December?

Not a great pic. 2014 Expert.

As I recall, aren't you jmX 6'1" and ride a 56? Reason I ask is because I am 6'1" on a 58 Roubaix. I would like to ride your set up to see how I would like a handlebar closer in but lower for essentially the same reach...just a different arm angle from shoulder to handlebar.
Of all the bikes posted in the thread, you may be the smart guy in the room with your set up.
Nice bike.
PS: how close are you to the minimum insertion line on your seat post?

Thanks Luis, it's super fun to ride. At the fitting they changed me over to an 80 stem as I've got a bit of a back issue. Made a huge difference in comfort. Can ride this thing all day long. (and did Monday! ). Still loooking forward to seeing pics of your new bike!
