I've the urge to learn French, Italian and Spanish
I have the urge to learn these three language so that I can follow the native language commentary during various cycling events. Yes, I know there is always English commentary for many races but I think this would be an interesting extracurricular pursuit for me.
Eventually, I'll sound like Euro-pro!
Anyone else ever get the same urge?

I don't think there's anything odd with wanting to learn a language so you can listen to stuff in it's native language.
I've been trying to learn Italian so I can listen to operas properly (slightly odd reason for a 23yr old guy to learn italian I admit but hey ho)

FWIW, when I went to Italy a few years ago, I had no problem speaking Bike with the shop owner who rented me a bike or any of the riders I met out on the road.

I've been doing duolingo and Rosetta Stone for French for about a year. Still cant speak French worth crap. I can read it pretty good, but my pronunciation is horrible. You need to immerse yourself somewhere and get conversational with the native speakers to be able to speak well. I'm thinking about a trip to Montreal in the spring. Although I have heard French people tell me the French they speak in Montreal isn't French.

I've studied German, French and Russian in college, and I'm convinced that
the ONLY way to really get it, is to go there and practice.
Unless you're REALLY using it, classes will only take you so far.
Unless you just want to just find a toilet, bar, train station, etc., you need to LIVE with the language.

Nothing special except continue to study in college and ride my bike lots.
I also plan to study a list of cycling related French vocabulary then watch French commentaries for cycling races just to try to get a hold of how things sound and possibly catch a few words.
