Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Heathpack should post a bike photo and how much she spent on the post that doesn't work. Addiction can then recommend a similarly priced non-BMC post. If it's 27.2, you have options from every company.

Rep did say there is some sort of dysfunction going on right now in the company because they are in the middle of moving offices from Boston to San Diego. Plus something about their latest small parts shipment going missing. Supposedly it's not usually like this. Who knows?

BMC says there is some sort of uniqueness to their post- the shape and the method of carbon fiber lay-up. My concern in not with weight but with the supposedly engineered compliance of the post. I ride long distances typically.

If this is all marketing BS, then I'm ok with going with some other seat post. But I was trying to get the BMC post to maximize the thing I spent so much $ to get- a compliant but not too compliant bike.

Happy to post pics, but of what? The wrong mountain bike post? The 18mm offset post that came with the bike but does not work? The current 0mm offset aluminum post that's on the bike (supposedly temporarily)?

Regardless, I'm going to go actually ride the bike this afternoon, so I'll be out for a bit.

Called LBS. Talked to owner of shop who had talked to BMC. Says there is no 0mm offset post, just 3mm. And BMC only has red & black seat posts right now. (My bike is white & black, not a stitch of red on it.)

Ask LBS owner if he knew how long it would take to get black & white seat post. He said he would have to call BMC and call me back.

I protested about the "call me back" idea, since that never really happens. Finally wheedled out of him the cell number of the BMC rep.

Talked to the BMC rep, they are having problems with small parts supply right now. To get a black & white seat post now, they'll have to find a whole bike somewhere, get their hands on it, take the seat post off and ship it to LBS who can then ship it to me.

I am confused about that b/c the bike comes with an 18mm offset post, so I'm not sure where they're going to find a bike with a 3mm post. Whatever I guess that is their problem. I did get him to agree that they could MAYBE ship the seat post directly to me rather than to LBS.

So BMC is going to search for a bike to cannabalize. In the meantime @3alarmer, if you actually have a carbon post with appropriate offset, I might take you up on our offer and tell BMC to forget it.

This is a fabulous bike, I have to remind myself that it actually is worth all this aggravation.

I called the folks in Lakewood here, and they also told me about the 3mm offset, and he stated that though they would love to sell BMC posts, that's not an easy proposition, due to demand. He suggested 3T with the white accents.... Of course, it appears it's down to material, and aesthetics, but any 27.2 would be fine.

The bike photo is to recommend a post that matches.

I doubt there's anything unique about the carbon layup of the BMC post.

You do know you can just buy a Kalloy zero offset 27.2 post in black anodized aluminum alloy, right ?

Amazon.com: Kalloy Seatpost, 400mm x 27.2mm, Black: Sports & Outdoors

Or you can follow the crowd here and go with a Thompson.
I currently do have a 0mm offset aluminum post on the bike, FYI. I mentioned that unthread but I know there's a lot of gory details to keep track of in these posts.

Thanks for calling. I actually have a 3T on the bike right now, aluminum, black & white, matches well.

Too much setback.

That bike definitely calls for a black Thomson zero setback, IMO.

It rained like crazy last night, or something. I had the same stuff on the grass and back porch. The roads were dry enough to ride the NP, but even wet, I would have ridden it. Once I wear the goody off my stuff, everything is fair game. Though it took me a while to trust the CF on dirt.

Probably due to the "harsh" winter. Good thing their offices weren't in Syracuse, they would have really had reason to flee.

No point to owning cool stuff if you can't use it. A little ice this morning, but nothing the R3SL couldn't handle.
