Just wanted to give a thumbs up for Psimet and other guys who do give out good info on here despite getting the typical 41 treatment constantly.

All I've learned in this thread is that we should probably just stick to talking about which set of carbon clinchers to buy in the 41. I definitely will not be coming here in the future seeking medical advice...shudder...
I hope one day if I think I am as awesome as you are I keep it to myself and not look like a moron on the internet |

I have a hard time reading a book while riding. Is there a trick to keep the pages from flapping around in the wind?

You guys are obviously smarter than Hunter Allen, Andy Coggan, Chris Carmichael etc. They are the ones who came up with the methods of estimating FTP using durations shorter than 60 minutes. I didn't just make this stuff up.

Andy Coggan's Seven Deadly Sins | Two Wheel Blogs OK, Einstein, which one of these is what you're using to lie to yourself and allow you to say your FTP is around 300W? How to determine your Functional Threshold Power In decreasing order of reliability:
You can't even hit 300W for 10 flipping minutes and you think your FTP is over 280? What's the color of the sky on your planet? Cuz it sure ain't blue. |

Andy Coggan's Seven Deadly Sins | Two Wheel Blogs your fellow riders are probably going harder to shut you up. |
I'll take Andy Coggan's word over anyone in this thread. He's actually demonstrated that he knows what he's talking about.
|
Oh, yeah. To give you an idea about how accurate those are, the best NP I've done in an hour race is about 330W, but it wasn't hard. I've done NPs up around 370W for an hour.
And MY FTP is right around 300W. So by the time you get down to #4 , it's pretty damn inaccurate. |

Please explain how you get the whacked idea that you have an FTP around 300W when you can't hold 250W for an hour. Explain that. Because you can do 283W for 10 minutes? That's WORTHLESS in predicting FTP. |

Stop trying to win this argument by appealing to an authority whose writings are not consistent with your claim. Well, just stop. Please? Stop. |

Also appealing to the authority of Chris "extract of cortisone" Carmichael is a joke.

I think we are being too hard on Dunbar. He does not have enough data to come to any conclusions about this physical prowess without more data and how much he weighs. We do know he can put out 300w for some time but at that level I would expect his 5 sec to be over a KW and it looks like he is just quits at ~15 min. Dunbar come back with more data, you can handle the abuse and we can play some more. PM's are a humbling device.

What makes you think you have an FTP higher than 250W? Your ability to do 283W for ten minutes? How about you take 83% of the average of your third through sixth interval? What's the highest 60-minute average power you've posted? |
