Looking for aerobars
I am a 63 year old rider looking for aero bars for my Specialized Roubaix Expert. I ride on roads near the ocean in Naples, FL and Cape Cod, MA. I am looking for them to help with heavy winds and long distance rides.
I went to Naples Cyclery this afternoon, but got very confused by the number of choices. They carry mostly Profile Design. Do I need the arm rests to flip up when not in use? Do I want the aero's to attach on the top or bottom of the handlebars?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Paul

I ride Syntace C2, now C3. I like them to attach to the top. The Syntace pads don't flip up, work OK anyway. Depends on your bar width. They're solid and have a comfortable shape and I like that. For LD, some people put risers on them. Syntace bars have accessory risers.

+1 on the Syntace aero bars. Mine don't flip up either, BUT I only use them for triathlons. If they were on all the time, I would probably want flip-ups so I could use the top of the bar for climbing.
Cheers

I had them on my Allez Elite.
It's been a while since I bought them and I sold the bike, but this is what they were:
Profile Design - Carbon Stryke
My pads flipped-up. Don't remember if that was an upgrade, or not, but they needed
to flip-up so I could ride on the tops.
I know how it is with the wind in Florida. I just grind it out, Belgian (wannabe) style, now.

Have you tried looking at mini/shorty aero bars? I use ControlTech's aero cockpit for windy days and long straights.
They're short so you don't have to mess with your road fit so you don't get to stretched out and the pads don't get in the way when riding out of the saddle.
Deda, FSA (Vision), and Profile Design also makes mini's as well.

63 and I am currently using Profile T4 Plus. Had Profiles with pop-up pads but wound up taping them down due to rattling noise.
I find that riding with hands on the pads instead of the bars is not too bad.

Thank you for the responses. I never heard of Syntace brand until I read your answers. They do not appear to be sold near me in SW Florida. Since I am heading north soon, I am going to wait until I get back up north and try some of the larger bicycle shops in Boston.
Again, thank you for the help.

BTW.....I found the adjustability of the Profile bars to be very helpful for dialing in the most comfortable riding position.

At times I use Deda Parabolica clip-on aerobars. Check Ribble for best price, ~$65.
