Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon frame protection

I just got a used frame, and I noticed that the clear sticker on chainstay is peeling off.
And there is another patch next to RD hungger.

Do you know where I can get the replacement stickers and where do they go on the frame?

There are a lot of different versions of the same thing: Lizard Skins Clear Skin Road Chainstay Protector | Competitive Cyclist

You can put the small squares anywhere a cable touches your frame.

I use the stuff that they put on cars:

VentureShield? paint protection film

Usually costs $300 to wrap a bumper in this. You can buy smaller rolls on Ebay. I bought a 16"x3' roll for like $15.

Yep you can just peel it off. You install it with soapy water. No other adhesives required.

I just use thick clear packing tape. Works great and leaves no residue when you remove it.

Is it thick enough? I think it is not thick enough, if the cable touches the frame it may run it through. Or you use a special kind of tape?

This is what I found:

Amazon.com: 3M Scotch Transparent Duct Tape, 1.88-Inch by 20-Yard (2120-A): Office Products

I will check Home Depot, but it looks it might work.

Be careful with that. The adhesive in duct tape might take off part of your paint when you have to remove to re-apply.

given the amounts we need for bikes, you could likely go to a shop that applies this stuff and get some scraps from the bigger pieces they cut for free or close to it

That's true, it's probably better to go with less powerful adhesive. My packing tape works perfectly and comes off easy.

This is what I ordered:

Amazon.com: XPEL Clear Universal Door Sill Guard (60" x 2.75") Paint Protection Film Kit: Automotive

The XPEL film is similar to 3M, but some reviews says the 3M will turn yellow and XPEL will not. That is exactly the problem I have on the frame I just bought from someone.

You can see the yellow protection film next to the elbow:

"My eye doctor said I need a "new frame." I think I got it right. I told my wife this is just what the doctor ordered."
