Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's your favorite bike brand and why?

As the title says, I am curious what bike brands did you like and why you pick them. Some of mine are : Raleigh, Cannondale, Scott, Tern. I picked raleigh for the best deals, and Cannondale for the advanced aluminum design to try out.etc. Be as Specific As you like.

Rivendell...because they do things differently and their bikes are fantastic. They take fredishness and the idea of "just riding,"not feeling like you have to emulate a pro racer to enjoy a bike ride to a level that I greatly appreciate.

Specialized because

(a) the bikes are so good and
(b) they are readily available as frames only to build and
(c) everyone hates them so much.

For some reason I've always had a thing for Cannondale even though I've never owned one. Maybe it's the New England thing. In the fantasy-land of my noggin, I picture the company being a bunch of easy-going, flannel wearers. And they make beautiful bikes.

Bianchi too. They had a shop on my walk back from class in college. I often stopped in and gazed. They were beautiful and seemed really exotic.

Had to google that. I don't do it for fashion. I just don't want to ride an advertisement/billboard.

If Trek or other major brands made frames without their branding all over it, except maybe in small lettering on the seattube above the frame size, I'd ride it.

A. Hipster!

B. Trek does...project 1, choose your own styling. Make the logos and accents the same color as frame.

My favorite bike brand is USED.

That said, I love my Rivendell. Smart design and gorgeous details. I like other companies with smart design, and I prefer steel, so of course I also like Surly, Soma, Boulder, Lighthouse, Ocean Air, and similar makers.

Trek, Specialized, Giant, Cannondale, and other major brands all make good bikes. But I get more excited for their old stuff than their new stuff. And I have a hard time discerning what makes one major LBS brand from the others. Their bikes are all basically the same. I guess that's what the huge billboard graphics are for.

Motobecane, because that's what I ride. There's nothing sexy about it, but the price was right and it gets the job done.

That Cavendish Venge was pretty sweet right before they closed the thread. Let's create another one. I thought it was entertaining despite adults sometimes acting like children. (or maybe because of…)

As to the favorite bike brand, I'm crushing on Kish Fabrications in Carrboro, NC. Custom Titanium frames that are as beautiful as functional. I'd love to call one my own someday...
