That's a nice generalization. Why not just go one further and say "cut tires are from riding your bike." I think I'd know if I ran over something...as a matter of fact, I have before and I always stop and check my tires if it happens. That's why I was surprised with that sidewall slit...I didn't hit anything and just happen to notice it late on in the ride.

So you're saying the sidewall spontaneously split on its own? Just because you didn't notice it that it didn't happen. Sidewall cuts generally have to come from something relatively large

Listen man...a damn $45 tire crapped out on me in less than 500 miles (less than 300 actually). I've since put over 2000 miles on a set of tires I paid $30/pc for. Call it luck, dumb luck, fate, carelessness, lack of skill...whatever..I do not care. There are tons of people that have sidewall issues with the GP4000 and I'm one of them. No matter what caused it...$45 for a tire that takes a dump in a month is crap and I will not buy one again.

Yes...yes I did. With a list of bike road tires out there as long as my arm...why in hell would I drop another $45 on a tire that crapped out on me that fast?

Tell you what...I will GLADLY PM you my address and you can send me another GP4000 tire to match the other one I have. I will ride it all summer and come on here singing its praises of it doesn't take a dump on me.

Within a half a dozen trainer rides and a 100 miles on the road the tape was already worn through the colored layer on the right side by the hood.

Mine just did that last week after two years of riding 100-150 a week. Something went wrong with yours.

Exactly my point. I had a bad experience with my first purchase of the tape and will not be repurchasing it much like the other poster will not be purchasing those tires again because of their first experience with them.

yeah, the vittoria open corsa is the best tire i've found for suppleness. and i agree, they cut and shred so damn fast you wouldn't believe it. i finally gave up and i ride the pro 4 now. not quite as good a ride, but a bit more durable

i have the conti's gp4000s on my rain bike which has become my principal ride due to some repair issues required on my pedalforce. i didn't like them until i dropped about 5psi from the pressure i'd normally put into my schwalbe ultremos zx. the contis have very stiff sidewalls and to get them into the magic spot means less pressure.

Michelin Pro's are great tires for display bikes..I ride bikes so I gave mine away...Conti's are cool ...not supple..higher mileage...Vittoria and Vredestein are in another class for clincher tires .... almost a tubular ride but you pay $$$ for the experience.

Schwalbe makes some nice tires...did I mention I do not like michelin pro's ?

You aren't alone. Two tires in the last 2 months for me. Very frustrating and not worth the ride.

Just as a data point, I just threw out a GP4000s because I wore it to the cord. Got one initial flat on it about 250 miles from new. That was due to a large staple. I put a small patch under the hole the staple left, put in a new tube and rode until there was no tread left. The matching front tire still looks great and is well past 2500 miles with no issues. I've never had a sidewall cut in a GP4000s, but that's just me, and covers the maybe 6 or so GP's that I've ever had on my bike since I switched to that tire.

People can ride what they like, whether their decision is based on 1 data point, zero data points, or the world's largest study of all tires ever - ooh that would be cool to read. Have fun riding!

I tried a 28mm Ultremo ZX and thought it rode worse and had more rolling resistance than a 25mm GP4000s with 10 more psi in it. I took it off after 1000 miles and went back to the 25mm GP4000s.

How long are you guys getting out of your GP4000S rear tires? I'm getting 5-6k miles before the wear indicator dots disappear. The front tires would probably go close to 10k miles at that rate. That is at weights in the 165-180lb range.

That is great.....I have not raced on any tire for 3 seasons......I was using the super light Pro 4 for road racing.....maybe I should have used the Endurance Pro 4 with Krylion. Thanks for the input.......enjoy the day....ride fast have fun.

Isn't Krylion a different model from Endurance Pro 4? You make it sound as if the EP4 has Krylion in it...or am I missing something?

I'm a big fan of GP4000S but one feature I don't like is the bar code glued inside the tire. It's covered with a thin film of plastic that dries and cracks. I just had my second flat from it. I can see the imprint of the barcode on the tube. What gives?

I had the same problem, then I tried it again, same problem. I won't be trying it again.

I liked the grippiness of the 4000s especially in the wet, thought they went where I pointed them pretty well, but quit using them after endless flats and 4 blow-offs. They'd be OK for a few hundred miles, then start picking up glass and flints and flat almost every ride. After having 2 flats in the snow on one ride, I got rid of them. I then tried the earlier Schwalbe ZX, but they flatted even worse. The DD wasn't much better. I've been on Michelin Endurance PRO4 tires for a couple years now, ever since they came out I guess, and they are the answer for me. Good grip in all conditions, good rubber life, and very few flats even as the rear squares off. And zero blow-offs.

I found that the sidewall threads on the gp4000 would deteriorate due to UV exposure, and they'd start unraveling. Still ridable but ugly.
