Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

At the risk of getting chided for bringing an old thread back from the grave... I have an RX100 question, or more specifically, would like to get some opinions.

I'm in the process of building up an older road bike ('86 Cannondale), and have the chance to pick up an RX100 group for $200 - or at least, that's the initial asking price before haggling. The group includes down tube shifters, front and rear derailleurs, front and rear brake calipers, cranks, and cassette.

So, in your opinion, is that a fair price? Thanks in advance for any input you can give!

^ I think that is WAY too much for a group with DT shifters.

I have an old Peugeot Optimum (early 90's), it has rx100 hubs and is 7 speed, I have removed the cassette and axle but struggling to get the free hub off, any ideas, I'm beginning to wonder if it doesn't separate from the hub? Thanks in advance

They can be crazy tight, some of the tightest parts I've had to undo. I suggest putting something over the alen wrench for extra torque.
The guys at my local shop sometimes have to use a vice to get old ones off.

Thanks disco stu, I've tried to get a 10mm allen key in there but it doesn't fit, when I look in the void where the axle was (centre of the free hub) it appears totally cylindrical I can't see any flats that the allen key can work from even if it did fit, am I being totally thick and missing something?? Out of interest if i were to get the 7 speed off would 9 speed shimano free hub body fit in its place? Thanks again. I have got another set of wheels aI can use on the build but was keen to re use the original mavic rims. Cheers
