I like the feel of the tape on my CAAD10 but it's starting to wear out (~1500miles) so I'm looking for new tape as well. I ride without gloves so I think the faux leather stuff might be too slippery when it is hot?(?). I'd like something similar to the original but checking ebay Cannondale tape is pretty pricey so what is something similar but not so much?

I've lost my love of bulky padded bar tape and recently re-did my 3 road bikes with Newbaum's cloth tape.
Earlier in this thread there was mention of using tennis racket wrap. I may try some as a double-wrap on the tops of the bars.

I just picked up some Forte tape at performance for 10 bucks. Reminded me of Fizik Microtex. I figured I'll give it a shot.

Fizik microtex in black, no logos. It's not the easiest to stretch and lay down around the bends, however, if you take your time, the end result is beautiful.

I just wrapped mine in Fizik and I have mixed feelings. It is nice looking and it feels good but I prefer a thicker wrap and more padding. I will keep it on there but I doubt that I will buy it again.

I went with Planet Bike cheap cork/gel...
little thicker than I anticipated, but felt ok for the first 10 miles.

Wait! Four pages and no mention of classic Cinelli cork? Does that make me:
A) real old school
B) incredibly set in my ways and resistant to change
C) cheap
D) All of the above
I've always liked it, as its not too squishy, absorbs well, and its very durable (important when riding in Oklahoma's summer heat).

Fizik does make a padding kit to go under their tape that adds coushion on the tops up to the hoods and on the top of the drops. I have used it for ten years and find it gives just enough padding to dampen vibration without killing all the road feel. Another vote for the Microtex for durability and staying clean.

hands down best tape i have used is silva plain black cork tape. so perfect. a dream to wrap, mad grippy, even when wet. only problem is how hard it is to find now.

I almost think the question to ask is best tape vs. best white tape. If I didn't love how hawt my bike looked with white tape, I'd use almost anything. I loved the feel of my old Specialized Roubaix tape, and I'm sure there are several comparable cork tapes to it, but for white tape that stays clean for far longer than you should leave it on...Fizik. Im nearing three years on my last wrap. Just ordered new tape, but I'm slightly concerned about what my bars look like underneath.

Fizik Superlight. I like grip but dislike cushiness. Problem is that it's $20 a box. Instead of buying small rolls, I'd like to buy a large 20 meter roll at bulk prices.

Lizardskins is also falling apart on me after 1000 miles or so. Probably my installation error... the first time it was too loose and slipped down at the front face of drops (just behind the levers). Re-wrapped tighter... which lasted longer before slipping, but also separated and has bits of the outer layer peeling.
