Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question about buying a used frame

Hello, not sure if im the right section, or if this thread exists on these forums somewhere..

been looking around for a proper frame for a while now, and i'd like to know how to assess a used steel road frame?

just some heads up about the stuff i got to look out for, what to avoid, and generally how to inspect it properly would be good.

Thanks yall

Look out for obvious signs of crash. Bent chain stay especially where the deraileur attaches, bent fork , large dings and excessive rust. But steel frames are more forgiving than other materials. Small dings aren't as much of a concern as they are with other material. And even if there is some rust a steel frame can be restored to like new condition although that will probably cost more than you pay for the frame
