Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

FYI - $450 Silca Floorpump

SILCA SuperPista Ultimate Floor Pump The Finest Bicycle Floor Pump The world has ever seen

I think I'd rather spend the $450 on a 3500 cubic foot cylinder of nitrogen gas.

I'm going to get one right after my $250 bar tape comes in.

The industrial design is pretty bad a%&. They know that many cyclists tend to have lots of extra cash and love to upgrade.

I can't say I've ever experienced "pain, suffering and frustration" when operating a far less costly floor pump. And why a "12,000 psi" hose is needed to inflate a bicycle tire is anybody's guess. It'll be a struggle, but I think I just might be able to resist clicking "add to cart". I can afford to flush $450 town the toilet. But I choose not to.

The only real reason to buy this pump is because of looks, because it's really not going to function any better than any other decent quality floor pump. No judgment on that, people should buy what they want. But it looks so similar to a $70 Lezyne that it could never personally convince me, even if I had the cash to burn.

Or you could buy 2 Makita compressors (one for road bikes, one for off-road, say) and save yourself all that up-down pumping effort.

"At 7 pounds (3.2kg) the Ultimate is easily the heaviest and most stable floor pump ever made."

One of the ONLY times you will see a cycling product praised for its extreme weight.

Regardless, I think I will pass.

Really sad. I have loved my Silca Super Presta pump for decades. This is way, way, way overdone and there is not commensurate benefit to the additional cost. It fact, it's stupidly overdone.

My new favorite pump is the SKS Rennkompressor. That's the new standard for pumps that last and are reasonably priced (about $50 from Amazon).

For $450, it better pump the tires for me AND lube the chain!

on the topic of pumps...whats the presta valve end called? and where can I find them?

When ever I search I find the adapters that go on the wheels and not the pump it self.

"Presta pump head" should give you all the hits you need. "Presta chuck" probably also works.

The pump doesn't have enough bling to be worth $450.

I kinda agree there, in particular, I'd like to have seen a matching rosewood cover for the gauge body. That'd have been dope.

As for the price in general, it's a lot to ask, and I'm sure they spend a good deal on manufacturing the product in Indy, what with the castings and finishing level that's apparent, and I don't begrudge anyone making money in general, so if they can position themselves at the top of the market (did you see their ultra premium CO2 cartridges!?) with the finest product out there, I'm all for it. Somebody is gonna be there, and it's a good thing if it's a quality built, high-functioning product and not just chintzy brand flash (which it could be; take for example the Campagnolo Big Corkscrew).

That changes a $450 pump into a $560 pump.

I'm in shock - I've been a Silca fan for years and have had 3 Silca pumps that are timeless. Then this? A yuppie bike pump for the cost of an entry level road bike?!

First Brooks, and now Silca. What's up with all these companies making extremely expensive yuppie 'lifestyle' items?

I'm a fan of good design and aesthetics, but when I read something like the below quote I just think that someone is taking the piss. A 12,000 PSI hose to pump my bike tires? Really? I do have two Silca pumps and think that they are great.

Both Presta and Schrader chucks are connected to the SILCA exclusive 12,000 psi hose. Originally designed for use in race car and aircraft brake line, the Ultimate hose is just that, the Ultimate.

It looks substantially similar to the same silca chuck you can buy on amazon for about twenty bucks.

Am I the only one who hates that silca chuck? It's huge and a TOTAL PITA to get on the wheel. Nice pumps, easy to use, ******** chuck. That's my opinion.
