Orbea Orca - good deal?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Orbea Orca - good deal?

2013 with 10 speed Ultegra for $1699

2013 Orbea Orca BLT Ultegra 10S Mavic Askium 53cm Anth-Carbon [2013 ORCA BLT anth-carb 53cm] - $1,699.00 Velomine.com : Worldwide Bicycle Shop, fixed gear track bike wheelsets campagnolo super record vintage bike

Would you say this is an exceptionally good deal? I've been looking around at carbon bikes with Ultegra or better. Not really concerned with 10 speed vs 11. Don't really need to upgrade now...but as we get into September I know best deals are to be had now. I've seen some full carbon bikes with Ultegra for $2000 mark so this seems to be a good deal especially with Ultegra cranks.

I think it is honestly. CC was selling it last year for $1399 but it was built with a partial Rival group. It had an Apex crank, cheap brakes and wheels. This one has the full Ultegra and the mavic wheels are better than the ones on the CC bike. If I were in the market I wouldn't have an issue paying that for it.

Back when I was hunting, if I came across that deal in my size I would have bought it straight away.

A bit of input: it has a shimano crank in a BB30 with a less-than-ideal converter. I had the exact same situation and it creeked like a mothereffer after 1200 miles. Twas another $120 to get it fixed good and proper with a Praxis converter. That's just me. You may have no problem with it whatsoever.

My CAAD9 has a FSA bb30 adapter currently and creaks like a mfer! I bought this frame used and it's 5 years old but I know about the creaks.

I spent the last few months looking myself and actually ended up buying a 2013 Madone 5.2 from LBS at a big discount. But the Orbea was one I was looking at and impressed by, and yes, that price looks about as good as it will get in IMO. All the best to you with whatever you decide!

From what I know about bb30 is it seems that you are asking for trouble if you get a frame with it. Doesn't matter if you have bb30 native cranks or an adapter. I'll agree that Praxis is the only adapter that seems well thought out
.
Anyone ride the bronze level frame and either silver or gold? Curious how it compares. My current bike is pretty stiff

Nearly useless background: I bought that bike from CC last year and had them ship me Aksiums at the same time; I changed the brakes to Rivals shortly thereafter. I found a new Rival crank on eBay with bearings for cheap, which I'll install at some point. I have 2500 miles on it now, and so far (fingers crossed) no creaks. I've been happy with the bike.

I've never compared it to their higher end models, but from what I gather, those would be somewhat less forgiving, but somewhat lighter--this isn't light for a carbon frame. With the Ultegra groupset, this seems like a very nice deal to me.

For what it's worth, I bought the Orca Brz. Sram, last December from CC for $1250. The BB30 has been silent so far, I replaced the Apex crank with a Force, and both derailleurs have been swapped with 2013 Red. The OE wheels are heavy but the Aksiums aren't much of an upgrade either. This winter I will replace the OE wheelset, with what, I am not sure yet, I have a set of Ksyrium's on another bike I considered swapping but looking at going lighter.
With a set of American Classic Aero's on it for a mountain ride recently, the weight of the bike was just over 16 lbs.
I love the bike, but what do I know...

Actually more insteresting i is this:

Nashbar CR4 Carbon Road Bike - 11 Speed Ultegra - Road Bikes

Frame might not be great but with 20% coupon code it's $1359 with 11 speed Ultegra

I'm going to stop by my LBS this weekend first and look at what deals they have. Of course I really don't need a bike right now, I just want one and can afford it especially if I can use paypal credit with 0% interest for a few months.

Need? Since when does that have anything to do with buying a bike

Focus bikes are really quite nice. Damned boat-anchor of a crank on that Cayo though, the ubiquitous Gossamer.

You'll be paying tax on Nashbar purchases too, btw. Performance owns them.
