Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What to do...

I ordered a cervelo R2.5 chorus in the beginning of february from a bike shop and they said it would arrive from the beginning of march to mid month. Now, in april, they are telling me it will take another month to a month and a half minimum. What should I do, wait it out, ask for my money back and wstart searchin again, any suggestions? I am looking to spend close to 3 grand. Thanks.

For a non custom frame, you shouldn't really have to wait this long. I don't know what the availabilty on those bikes is like though..

I went through the same thing. When I got to where you are now, I asked myself "How long did I spend looking, researching, and deciding which bike to buy?"

For me, that process was over a year. In that context, waiting another couple of months seemed worth it.

YMMV

Interesting... I just ordered the R2.5 as well from my LBS (R&A Cycles in Brooklyn, NY) early last week. They said they would call me early this week with an update...

I wonder if there are supply issues up in Canada that are causing delays. It may make sense to call Cervelo and see what they have to say.

Same story here, only my LBS is bringing the Soloist, it's taking forever. Perhaps the R2.5 would take a lifetime.

Just spoke to R&A as well as a few other dealers in the NY area. They all said that they're expecting new shipments in 2-3 weeks.

Interestingly, when I spoke to Cervelo's customer service in Canada, the rep said that new shipments are expected to go out early to mid May (latest). Not sure if he was being conservative or if the bike stores are overly optimistic...

ask the shop for a discount. If they promised it in a certain time frame and fail to deliver, they should compensate you.

Has that worked for people in the past? My sense is that they will come back and say they 1) didn't guarantee anything (which is true) and 2) it's out of their control since Cervelo is the one who is struggling to work off the backlog.

Any thoughts?

I'm not surprised. It's a pro quality frame equipped with Campy Chorus for around $3k...

I'd email Cervelo too asking politely about the apparent backlog. I emailed Cervelo a few months ago asking about availability of the superprodigy and Gerard Vroomen replied. Pretty cool if you ask me.

I actually did email them as well and received a response today. Here is the response (not from Gerard Vroomen :-)

We have been experiencing delays in models across the board. It seems to be an industry thing as many manufacturers even Trek are affected. Some delays can however be attributed to bike shops themselves if they did not get their preseason booking order into in a timely fashion. We fill orders on a first order in, first order out basis so a delay at the dealers end will affect their ship dates.

We usually have a Feb./March high period for shipping but this has turned more into Mar./April. Currently frames come in, we build them up and sending them right back

out again.

Again I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. It kills me to think that a potential Cervelo rider has to ride their second choice bike for the next couple of year because of a few weeks. We are trying our hardest to get our bikes out as quickly as possible to prevent this.

Sincerely,

Chris, customer service

Just spoke to my LBS again regarding the Cervelo R2.5. Now the story is that the frames MAY be here in another two weeks. They're pretty much in the dark...

After having waited almost two months (NOT including the time I spent narrowing down to my choice), I'm finally at the end of my rope. At this point, why not wait unitl '06 for the next generation??!!

The other alternative is to go for the Soloist Team (which was my next choice). LBS has a bike in stock in my size... It is a great bike and a a good bit cheaper, which would allow me to get a better wheelset. Any thoughts?
