Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BDop Testing Grounds 1

This is my first ride with my GoPro. This is where we do a lot of our product testing. The ride starts on section that climbs slowly up to the first downhill section. It finishes on the next climb that takes me closer to the mountains and longer, sustained climbs.

EDIT: For those with ADHD skip to 9:40 and 10:40 for the real fun.

That seems pretty impressive to me from what I saw.. kind of wondering what your stats were for that ride?

That was only 15min of a 3 1/2 hour ride. I didn't check the Garmin starts and I don't do Strava so...i don't know.

Honestly, the second part of the video is much more fun (9:40 and then 10:40 - the downhill part).

Sure ain't Italy.
GoPro is an amazing device which can bring the world into our homes.
But how do we know you weren't on a ducati simply puttering in 1st gear since there was no sound?

Seriously?

You can see the tip of my shift lever on the right side of the screen and you catch an occasional glimpse of my fingers. Also (and I can't believe I'm responding to this) I get out of the saddle a few times and you can see the rocking of the bike.

I would like a Ducati, though, so send one my way and I will fill up the interwebs with videos.

Needs a soundtrack. I suggest Smashing Pumpkins, "Bullet with Butterfly Wings."

Honestly, we are going to add a ride video page to our website very soon. I was more interested in getting the GoPro sorted, the You Tube channel up and running and making sure all the bits an pieces worked, synced, linked and whatever else this stuff needs to do. This was just a dry run run with more fun to come.

Damn you, you're making me miss Taiwan!

It's odd seeing footage of Taiwan with empty roads, as they generally look like this:

But then again, I have fond memories of motorcycle trips on isolated mountain roads like the ones in your video. Positively idyllic, they were. Stay safe during the typhoon!

There are tons of roads like that in my area. It's where I do most of my riding. I know those roads very, very well so I can hang it out a bit on the descents.

Just watched those two segments you pointed out and that's the first thing I thought to myself.. "Hmm don't know if I'd attempt those speeds not knowing those narrow roads and how common local wildlife may walk out of the brush at any given second". Did you check to see what speeds you got up to? I know probably not outrageous but just wondering considering the section of road.

Did you finish up Testing Grounds 2 yet?

Speeds? Nope. No time to look down at the Garmin. It's about as fast as I would want to go.

I hope to get another vid done soon. I haven't decided which route I want to do but I need to wait a day or two as we just got nailed by a typhoon and, in the foothills and mountains, it can take a few days to dry out. I'm pretty sure all the bridges are still there but some of the smaller roads get washed out from time to time.

Good question. This was my first time using the software.

I started at 1080 50fps (I think) but when I converted it I used the setting it recommends for uTube. The original video is crystal clear. The one I uploaded is not. I was a little disappointed by that.

I'd like to make a smaller frame size but in higher resolution to try to keep the file ssize down a bit. I'm still learning have to get this done. Hopefully v2 will be better.
