Why do my chamois pads always seem to shift left??

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why do my chamois pads always seem to shift left??

I have 2 pairs of shorts (one Louis Garneau, one Canari) and 1 pair of Nashbar Mansfield 2 bib tights that I just got this week. On every single one of them it seems like the pads have a tendency to shift to the left, such that the seam along the right side ends up near or under my right sit bone. On the LG shorts, the seam is rather scratchy and it gets quite painful, such that I have to stop every few miles and adjust things. It's gotten to the point where I actually will wear a pair of lycra boxer briefs under the LG shorts, which actually works pretty well.

Wonder what could be causing this? The saddle I use is a Selle Italia X1, like so:

Stupid question I know, but are the shorts snug enough? I had one problem with a pair of slightly too large shorts once (a different problem mind you, but it was the only pair that did that).

I'm sure glad I don't have your problem though. I'm majorly OCD on the bike, and I'd be fiddling with those shorts every few miles.

Just get a Prince Albert and hook it on the pad when you put the shorts on.

I don't think the shorts are too big. I know the bib tights are not too big, definitely.

I had to look up what a Prince Albert is, actually, and umm.... HELL TO THE NO!

I don't think this is normal, which means it's likely biomechanical - i.e. you are leaning to the right. The remaining question is why. Either a muscle/balance issue or a bike setup issue. Or both. Check that everything is centered and straight - both you and the bike. Is there any chance your right leg is shorter than your left?

Right leg shorter? Not that I know of. Everything feels straight and level when I stand up straight. Maybe I need to have a bike fitter take a look at me.

If you have the right size of bibshorts all around, I'll bet you dollar to donuts that one of your legs is slightly shorter than the other.

When you say everything feels straight and level when you stand, that does not mean you don't have a leg length discrepancy. Sometimes it takes x-ray measurements to even see the discrepancy if they are very small. That fact was relayed to me by an ortho who worked on me when I broke my femur.

It may have to do with the intrascrotum testicular distribution.

More serious, i notice that i tend to sit to the right of the saddle more often. This may move the chammy if the pants are not pulled all the way up. It happens due to my huge guads.

Many people have a leg length discrepancy, and it may be either a true physical difference or a functional difference. You can measure the physical discrepancy, it'll take somebody with skill to diagnose a functional discrepancy.

On a different note, about 50% of the riders I ride with seem to have shorts that are too loose. I don't know if just wearing old lycra that's lost it's ability to bounce back, but I see a lot of riders with loose shorts with a lot of wrinkling.
