Polar Vortex again next week?

That's what I hear. I hope it's the milder version.

rpenmanparker 01-03-15 05:07 PM

For everyone's sake.

dalava 01-03-15 05:11 PM

As long as it's dry, I think I will ride through it. I draw the line at -10f.

K100Fran 01-03-15 05:13 PM

its winter but I like the temp a bit warmer than what is forecast for next week.

rpenmanparker 01-03-15 05:14 PM

I draw the line at 60 deg F.

I'm pretty open minded. I mean about that kind of thing. ;)

datlas 01-03-15 05:55 PM

It's called winter. Seems to happen every year.

JohnDThompson 01-03-15 11:08 PM

I can hardly wait. :notamused:

I knocked out a 28 mile ride today on one of my favorite loops. I figure once the cold spell kicks in it may be a while before I do a ride that long again. It will be back to commuting miles and walking the dogs for a while. The dogs like the cold weather; they know they get to go on longer walks, :).

Polar Vortex can bite me...this season I got myself a trainer which I've been really enjoying like some kinda sicko.

When I lived in Canada we didn't have polar vortexes ... we had winter. It lasted roughly 6 months every year and included snow, ice, and cold.

Of course you didn't have Polar Vortices in Canada. A Polar Vortex is what we call Winter in the USA when you let the damn thing leak out of Canada and run down into the USA. Please tell any friends you have there to shut the damn barn door and keep it for themselves. Then we won't have to argue about what to call it. ;)

You're right. There are three people not upset by the extreme cold.

BillyD 01-04-15 08:22 AM

So what, it's winter, it's supposed to be unbearably cold. Just find something else to do. Jeebus!

I've never seen such a bunch of fanatics before in my life, act like bicycles are the only worthwhile exercise in the .... Oh wait, is this thing still on?

Um, nevermind. Carry on. :o

xscottypx 01-04-15 08:24 AM

i used to not care about cold, snow, etc... until i wanted to ride year round. now i scoff at it even though in comes every year. take advantage of those days when its 30's+ and sunny. and if not, i hit the treadmill and work on climbing.

Well look at the bright side-- You can sit indoors and debate the pros and cons of electronic shifting, disc brakes, and nitrogen-filled tires for a little longer.

Oh come on, I'm in south Florida and I still ride, but only down to 50 which is like once every other year. JK

Lazyass 01-05-15 03:40 PM

Al Gore wants an explanation.

I used to ride in freezing whether in Houston and the Texas Hill Country, but it just wasn't any fun. Riding is something I really like to do, but don't have to do. So I reserve it for decent weather.
