Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Reflective ankle straps

anybody have tips on a good one? Amazon links appreciated.

I'm also pondering getting one of those running vests (really, just straps that cross over your chest) for visibility at night.

Reviews on amazon are... interesting, to say the least. I wish there were a moron filter.

I have both the reflective ankle straps and the Supernova ankle lights. From Road ID.

I ride in the dark a lot. Mr H thinks watching me in the dark that the ankle lights most clearly ID me as a cyclist.

My predawn rides are frequently with other people. From that I can tell you that (at least from my perspective on a bike), a hi-viz yellow jacket or vest is the most obvious. I have both.

I have these: Robot Check

Small, but they do the trick. They don't stretch out over time and get loose like some of the more flexible ones I've tried.

I use velcro fastening reflective ankle bands, a Sam Browne belt, and a European standard reflective vest.

The Commuting forum is a good place to ask, too.

Try a dollar store. I've seen some at the stores here. Bright green with a reflective strip, and hold your pants away from you chain.

OP, before you do anything, you should check out Elevengear.com

Lots of high vis stuff, incl. reflective slap bands ($4.50). Good folks, too.

Bought these from PBK several years ago and not easy to find in the US. Here's a link.

I use these jandd straps, but the newer ones with the bigger reflector look better than the ones I have.
I use this joglite vest. It's fine. Not great, but I haven't been able to find one that I like that much better. If I were getting one today I would probably get the cactus creek vest.

Does your LBS not carry them? I know my carries two varieties.

I've been using a reflective vest from Tractor Supply. Inexpensive, bright, and breathable.
