Damn, that's gotta hurt.
Maybe I should put my phone number on the back of mine.
You should post this in the regional forum also.

Here's a thought, do you have it's serial number?
If someone uses it and connect to Garmin Connect, it might transmit the serial number or other id and Garmin might be able to help you track it down.

I didn't see a 1000 - but noted a 205 Edge right in that area.

OP - tough luck, hopefully an honest person will find it.
You can edit the startup.txt file to customize the startup screen to have it display your name/phone#/email address.

I take it Live Tracking was not setup, because that would locate it on a map, no?

For Live Tracking, the Garmin has to be paired with, and in close proximity to, an internet-connected mobile phone.
If it was on and in use, it would have stopped working the moment the phone & device were separated.

Also, did Garmin not ship the 1000 with the same tether strap that it ships the 510 with? The 510 is tethered to my bar, in the event it gets knocked off of the out front mount, it will just dangle off of my bar.

But once you disconnect, what does the map show? Shouldn't it show the last GPS co-ordinate that was sent when you disconnected? Should give an area to search, assuming you have it set to leave the map going past the end of the ride.

If the OP had Livetrack turned on (and the only reason to do that would be for someone else to watch his progress), the phone is broadcasting it's location to Garmin's servers - and the Garmin's location would have been lost the moment the Garmin & phone lost connection. There would be no record.
But really, all of this banter about tracking has sort of ignored the elephant in the room - Which is, how the heck did the OP not immediately notice that his honking-huge Garmin was suddenly missing from right under his nose?
