I have a Park full size pump designed for compact frames. It is adjustable and pumps a tire up to a pretty solid pressure.

Don't know the provenance of this, but for Captain Fast and the Starbucks crowd:

PS: You know Captain Fast. He's the getting-on-in-age ex-jock who can't quite afford a 911 or a Trophy Wife but has discovered Cycling's endless carbon fiber knick-knacks, lycra-nut huggers and semi-esoteric gew-gaws in compensation. He regularly holds court in the Starbucks parking lot braying "53/11, 400 Watts: HTFU" at the other dentists in attendance. He actually believes "The Rules" are not an in-joke and observes #30 & 31 as a semi-religious obligation. Actually he calls Mommie to come get him in the Merc wagon since he can't change a flat on his Pinnalized-Specerallo Team Shy Replica anyway.

I'm starting to use more CO2. I want to leak it in the atmosphere to change the jet stream so it gets warmer here.

heard that. It's impossible to figure for any and every possible failure, anyway. I do see co2 as a glaring weak link, though. That's just me. With a pump and patch kit, you"re good for a whole lotta flats, unless the tube is destroyed, of course. With co2, you're good for one or two flats

CO2 is for the vain and lazy, or the physically handicapped.

Racers, where money, contracts, and/or points are on the line, get an exemption.

I also give an exemption to those fleeing attackers.

Every other CO2 user is vain, lazy, or physically handicapped. This covers the vast majority of users.

I'm not lazy -- I hate carrying a pump because it makes me look fat.

I like Rapha or Assos cartridges best -- they bring out the color in my eyes.

I'm the same (well, except for my winter commuter). Both my road bike and my fixed gear have 2 tubes, 3 CO2 and a mini pump (plus a patch kit and some boot material). My winter commuter has Tuffy Liners, and I still carry 2 tubes (and a patch kit and boot material), but no CO2 - I have a Topeak Road Morph G. Actually, I may add CO2 to my winter commuter - it hasn't happened yet, but if it's cold and raining, the less time spent off the bike getting the tire up to riding pressure, the better.

As far as releasing CO2 to the environment, meh. I figure I should be getting a bunch of offsets anyway for riding instead of driving. A few years ago before I got back on my bike, I'd spend most of my days off driving around shopping, driving to lunch, driving to the range, etc. not to mention driving back and forth to work. While, I'm still far from car free, most of the time after a long ride, I don't really feel like driving anywhere . . . and I commute by bike more than 50% of the time.

Your vintage cars add more pollutants than ten SUVs

I remember one summer day when a CO2 cartridge would have came in handy. Me and my brother riding to work. He caught a flat in front of a city pool on Dekalb Ave in Bk. We stop so I can fix it. As I'm pumping up the tire some dude come running right towards us. I told my brother get on the bike and go. I pushed him with his STUPID low inflated tire till he got it going. As I jumped on my bike with the pump at hand I started pounding out power strokes the opposite way my brother was going. They heading towards me since I was close. Maybe 3 full crank rotations I feel a hand just reaching my jersey so a turned my head and BAMMMM. I fockin rocked him with my pump lmaoooo. Dude stopped and a road around the block to head towards my brother. My little brother was so far ahead of me haha. All I saw was 2 white legs pedaling way. I was laughing do head off the whole way to work. I was happy he was ok and I didn't go to jail. I commuted that route for close to 8 years. I got shot at twice and chased a few more times. I learned really quick that everything changes when you pull out hahaha. Fun times.

All I asked was pump or CO2! Thank you for all you passionate answers and some informative ones too...

Seriously, did you expect to get only one of those answers. There are pump people and CO2 people. If you want to be sure to get an unequivocal answer, you have to ask only one person.

But mostly passionate ones.

We got nothing if we don't got passion.

I agree with you. First it's CO2 cartridges and pretty soon the lazy ****** start drinking beer out of aluminum cans. When does it ever end with our wasteful selfish society?

You must be a riot at a party.

Apparently the conversation went right over your head. May be time to ease off the hard partying and let your brain recover, if that is indeed the problem.

You need a black pump. Black is always slimming.

CO2 all the way - I carry two and two spare tubes. After that, it is one foot in front of the other.......

cheers
