Sapim
has anybody here used their CXray spokes? Im just curious if you think they perform like they are said to. THere isnt a huge deal of information on them. Do you think the cost is justified? Any other comments?

$2 a spoke, right?
I doubt they make any noticeable improvement over regular butted spokes , but they are there for people who want the very best.
The Zipp web site has info on them.

I've built a few wheels with them and ride one pair quite a bit myself. They are excellent spokes (the whole Sapim line is easily the equivalent of DT's). The aero profile isn't extreme (in comparison to the DT bladed spokes, for example), so they fit through spoke holes without filing or slotting the holes. Since DT changed the length slightly of the elbow on their spokes a couple years ago (supposedly to accommodate wheel building machines), DT spokes don't fit quite the same on many hubs, so I've actually been using more Sapim's. They make a lot of hooey about testing, but frankly between spokes from Sapim, DT, Wheelsmith, and Phil, there isn't a bad spoke out there as long as you pick it with the application and rider in mind. The CX-Ray's have a pretty good amount of metal in the spoke so they actually hold up really well. You may have more problems with the alloy nipples than you will with the spokes themselves. They happily take tensions as high as your hubs or rims will allow and they don't have any unusual breakage patterns (unlike some of the bladed spokes). They are expensive, but hey, they are a pretty sophisticated aero design and they do come with alloy nipples (instead of the cheaper brass ones you get with other brands). Do shop around, because you can find them for a good bit cheaper.

Never have I rode on Cxrays, but my wheels are built with Sapim Lazers. (Basically the non-aero version.) They are light weight and very strong. I highly suggest Sapim spokes.

You might want to check out Wheelsmith AE15's, they are very similar to CXrays but only cost $0.59 each at oddsandendos.com

Look at that fatigue test. Amazing for such a light spoke.

Have your wheels rebuilt using those and SpokePrep. Make sure the builder builds a set, then takes them apart and rebuilds them. It will cost more but be worth it in the long run.
