Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Something came with the bar tape package?

My Bontrager bar tape came with these 2 strips that weren't bar tape but just like electrical tape. I'm assuming they are for finishing off the tape near the stem instead of using electrical tape?

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Yes, electrical tape is too declasse for today's sensibilities. So you get classy, made for the job "electrical tape"

I still use "regular" electrical tape. I throw those things out myself.

Yeah, These things seem like garbage to me. Why would i need the Bontrager logo plastered on that part of my bike even? Into the bin they go.

Electrical tape is so 20th century.
I use self-fusing silicone tape.
It positively stays on, no matter how roughly you treat it.

I use 1" black gorilla tape. Works great. The bar tape will move before that tape loosens lmooo

You're supposed to use electrical tape under tension to end the wrap; then you use those finishing strips on top of the electrical tape to create a cleaner finish to the wrap job. Since you don't put as much tension on the finishing strips as you do the underlying electrical tape, you don't run into the peel-back issue that you get with tensioned electrical tape.

If you don't want the Bontrager logo plastered on your bike, you probably shouldn't have gone with Bontrager bar tape since their logo is embossed into the entirety of the bar tape.

You're correct, however, I still use electrical tape then put this over the electrical tape. Nothing beats electrical tape but these dress it up a little.

I guess I see the point with them now...This Bontrager tape doesn't have any logos on it luckily How scandalous it would be to have Bontrager tape and logos on a Specialized Tarmac!

If you are having an issue with electrical tape peeling back all you have to do is leave a small amount untapped for a couple of minutes and the tape will relax then press down the that last one inch of tape onto the bar without stretching it and you should not have to worry about the electrical tape peeling back due to stretch.
