My solution is to carry it in the backpack i have with me anyways. Another could be to strap it to the back rack with bungies. Or possibly hang it on the bike some how...

Motor oil will work ok.

Try riding until the chain starts squeaking to gage a time frame. At that point it needs oiled. Then just oil it every now and then BEFORE it starts squeaking.

I use two bungee cords, one on the bottom 1/3 and one on the top 1/3. The bag lies on the rack on its back. Working out ok, but may try to rig it so it hangs off the side like a saddle bag.

I'm going to ride my commuter on the salty, wet roads and clean and lube often. It isn't an expensive bike, so the wear and tear will be ok with me. After all, the bike will be serving its purpose....
