my main question is how hard would it be to get a mail ordered road bike from an online vendor and assemble at home without taking it into a bike shop? or this something i should leave to the pros...

Shimano shifters, WTF is the difference......

between the Tiagra, Sora, and 2300 models? new to the sport, and cant really find much difference between the functionality. the only difference would be the cost....bascially its about $150 more...

ive been checking out new GT road bikes, series 3.0 vs 5.0. the only real ascertainable difference is the 3.0 has shimano tiagra shifters/derailluers while the 5.0 has shimano 2300 and microshift...

thanks for the input. bike warehouse also has the gtr series 3.0 for $670. may be worth the extra loot to go up, but again, the component specs are like chinese to me.
