I tried it once when Performance set me a 10sp Ultegra FD instead of a 9sp Ultegra FD. It was too narrow for my setup and couldn't adjust out chain rub completely. May depend on setup and such but...

if you are too tired to wash and dry after a ride, just toss the bottle in the fridge until you are able to properly clean it, this seems to keep the bacteria at bay...
