Ok thank you for the response. I did read somewhere that the derailleurs can be mixed and matched size wise but I guess that isn't always the case.

I can confirm the old chain works fine. I've tuned the gears/shifting and now everything works very smoothly, there is no sag and neither is the chain overstretched :)
