Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbonello

This week's Velonews has a Litespeed ad, sticker insert:

"Protect your privacy from overzealous well-wishers, gawkers and hangers on".

Inside are frame stickers in faux CF with "Carbonello" on them, with a very Cervelo accent on the "e". Then the sub-text, 'Mediocrity in Motion'.

Is this the future of frame advertising? Negative ads?

Isn't this what marketers do when they have no innovative features to sell a product on? Someone's a little threatened..

Litespeed, ...like their frames are distinguishable from 100 other Ti builders. Irony is lost in Tennesse.

Yeah, no better way to boost sales of Ti bikes than to alienate the entire CF-buying market segment (read: people who have the cash to make their next bike a Litespeed). But I guess the people who already bought Litespeeds might get a chuckle out of it.

One look at the pro peloton is enough to demonstrate the superiority of Ti.

Uh, I am pretty sure the OP edited his post after the Doc's question.

I think Ti is nice but for the price, I would go carbon fibre; methinks that most people do and that is why they have ads like this.

Pretty sad. I like Ti (I own 2 Merlins), but I've ridden CF and it's nice too.
I think the negative adds will do more harm than good.

You know, some companies are just ridiculous the way they try to market and sell their own products they are proud of.
I saw a beer ad tonight that said they had the best taste which is again just another company laying negative attitudes towards their competitors by saying they taste like crap. And probably only 20% of the bars in the country sell the stuff so where do they get off claiming that.

There was also an ad for a truck that touted the best towing capacity and they didn't resort to hinting at the competitor like Litespeed did, they just flat out named them. Of course they failed to mention they have worse gas mileage and slower 0-60 times. How dare they.

I can't believe these companies. Its really getting out of hand.

Litespeed has been bashing CF lately. I bet the owners of the Carbon Litespeed's are jumping for joy. Nothing like bashing the material this year that you praised the previous year.

Considering Litespeed pissed on their own products, I'm surprised it's taken them so long to resort to this.

I put one of these stickers on an employee of mine.

Tasteless advertising for sure.

Maybe we can all get a good deal on a Litespeed frame when they go out of business next year.

Unfortunately I didn't notice them until I had torn them in half. I may still try and piece one together to put on my leg. I particularly liked the, mediocrity in motion, on the down tube decal. It would so sum up my riding ability.

I thought the stickers were funny, but then again, I don't ride a carbon or Ti bike.
