1970 Raleigh Professional time capsule

I just got this 1970 Raleigh Professional Limited Edition. It has not been used in 30 years, so there is a lot of dry rot and accumulated grime. The pictures show exactly as I got it. It even came with a certificate and letter from Raleigh, sent from England.

I will be busy with a complete disassembly and cleanup. The spokes are rusted, so the wheels need to be rebuilt. I will need a 100mm or so stem, a Brooks Pro saddle, new tires and world logo hoods. Enough work to keep me busy for a couple months, can't wait to get started.

The thought of that horn squawking to announce such a fine bike just makes me laugh.

I was hoping it was a white 1970, but this makes up for that teeny bit of disappointment. Needs a bit of work, but the frame looks spanking new.

Note the sticker at the bottom of seat tube. Each was 1 of an initial batch of 500.

One of my all time favorite looking bikes; I wanted one in the 70s but could never afford; they were about $450. new. Have one now though...

More likely they are galvanized.

Nice !! That was my first race bike ... very similar to that. I may get flamed, but I like the Raleigh Pro better than Schwinn Paramounts that everyone fusses over.

Those look like tubulars to me. Rotten clinchers don't "sit" the same way.

Yeah, that is one of the prettiest Professionals I have seen. The OP's bike looks like it should clean up just as nice.

Is the geometry between the Mark IV and the Mark V the same? My 78 Pro has a 58cm top tube and a 60ish cm seat tube.
