Picked up this odd purple Miele today, with purple accents everywhere.
Has Miele decals and engravements on the frame but no model name
The Campagnolo parts do not have a model name either, the headset says "Brev Int"
I looked at the bottom of the bb and there were no numbers, just another "miele" engravement.

Your bicycle looks to be somewhat newer than most I have information on. That said, here is a Miele Catalog that might be of some help.

My guess is that your bike is a high end Miele and should be fun to ride.

Also, I need to purchase a wheelset if I decide to finish this bike up. Do I need to find an 8 speed campy wheelset or can I run a wheelset with an 8 speed shimano cassette? I hear they are incompatible but I found out through google that campy 8spd has the same spacing as shimano 7spd?!? All this campy stuff is new to me

Look into shimergo set ups. I don't think campy 8 speed was an option. That and you already have a campy rear derailleur, so that makes shimergo pointless.

There are other methods of using shimano rear derailleurs in conjunction with campy shifters via a j-tek shiftmate. Again, you already have the campy rd, so you may be better served just going with a campy cassette.

That makes sense, I will probably have to buy a campy wheelset. Is it possible to put an 8spd cassette on the 9-11 speed wheels or is the spacing different?

Those look to be the earliest model of campy ergo shifters from around 1992, all aluminum construction. Later ergo shifters had "CARBON" (plasic) bodies and more grooving cut into the brake levers. The early model shifters didnt really belong to a specific grouppo, the same shifters were sold for use with any of campys deraillers, athena to record. The deraillers look to be athena from same time period, chorus shifters used hex-key retaining nut for the shift cable instead of a regular 6-sided nut.
I would guesse that the frame was a few years older than 1992, perhaps originally outfitted with the shimano parts and then upgraded to campy ergo later. Campy really made a huge competitive leap forward when they introduced their ergo shifters and athena & chorus grouppos around this time. Campys parts offerings from the preceeding few years were a bit behind the tech advances from other competing bike companies and most campy parts were rediciously overpriced. With the introduction of ergo, they suddenly jumped to produced parts that worked even better than shimano and actually offered them at reasonable pricing. There were a lot of racers in the early-mid 90's that upgraded with these campy parts to breath new life into an aging bikes (myself included).

You can run the 8s ergos with a 7s freewheel (or an 8s freewheel)...You can also run 8s on a 10s wheel with correct spacers.

Tons of freewheel wheels obviously.

Plenty of 8s wheels out there as well though...

Gray Jay: Thanks for helping identify the parts. I was leaning/hoping on chorus but that was simply by matching up google pictures. you seem to know much more about campy than me so I assume you are correct. If anyone else can confirm this let me know!

Yeah I gave him a call first and set up a time, and he called me back saying there were a bunch of other people calling and offering him more than his asking price. Good guy though, didn't try to get more money out of me

That's actually what I was thinking! I figure that a wheelset with a freewheel hub would be much more common and cheaper. But apparently there's no 8spd campy freewheels??

On a side note: can anyone estimate a value for the bike (without the wheelset)? I'd rather not double post this on the "what's it worth" thread

The 8s freewheels are generally Sachs Success models...I have this set-up on my De Rosa Professional.

Based on the decals and plastic cable grommets, I'd say this frame is from after the 1991 restructuring of the company. There are a few model possibilities given the age and tubeset but it's most likely a Latina.

Another question: I removed the crankset today and there was a 7400 dura ace bottom bracket in there. Will a campy crankset fit on that square taper? or should I just get a matching 7400 crank?

Campy is ISO...Shimano is JIS...A Campy crank would sit 3-4mm out per side and risk ruining the taper/cracking with repeated removals/installs.

However, if being put on a long living sealed BB, and you can make the length work, there is no real problem in practice.

Campy BBs can be had for $25 and up.

...or just run the DA stuff.

Nothing much changed. Swapped out the saddle for a vintage San Marco Concor and pedals are old school Dura Ace 7401 pedals w/ clips (+ extra 1056 pedals)
