Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No riding in DFW today

20 degrees outside, 40 mph winds, -3 windchill. And then there is the 1 inch layer of ice on the roads covered by a dusting of snow. The Packers and Steelers should feel right at home.

I'm planning to take the Worksman cargo trike out for a spin this evening. Advantages using it are stability on slick surfaces and the ability to use my hiking boots and mittens instead of gloves and riding shoes. We shall see how it goes.

I rode to work today in DFW. Just took off the wheels, put my feet on the frame and hoisted a sail. Covered a couple miles in just minutes. Anyone know where I can get a frame painted?

I moved away from Dallas 2 1/2 years ago to lovely Raleigh NC. Today we are having mid 50's , the air is calm and there are a few high clouds but definitely riding weather. During the 30 years that I lived in Dallas before coming here I experienced a few cold days like what everyone is currently going thru. Hopefully by next weekend it may be in the 50's or low 60's. With road racing season here it is really tough to go out in this type of weather.

Not entirely. We spent five years in Colorado (Fort Collins, the north side fo the state). You have snow, but you don't normally have ice storms and sleet. Basically, anything that falls out of the sky between October and about April is frozen.

I tried to get out the door today and go for a ride but some places the snow was about a foot and a half high, so I thought better of it. We have a shot at getting 20 inches here in mid-Missouri. We've already gotten around 8-10 inches and the storm is only halfway done.

That's not the north east - that's Dallas. As in Texas. No snow in Austin but temp is 22 right now and dropping.

Yeah... I was out in the backyard yesterday cleaning up dog bombs in a pair of sweats, a t-shirt and a flannel shirt... and slippers.

Last night around 8:00 PM I looked at temperatures:

Dallas, 17F
Green Bay, 19F
Pittsburgh, 34F

So Steelers and Packers fan thought they be somewhere warmer?
