Mavic rims? Any good?

I'm looking for a rim that isn't super deep like deep v's, but also wont cost me over 250$ or so and I noticed velomine has some Mavic rims that kind of caught my eye. The Open Pros are nice, but they all seem to have machined side walls - not what I want. Are these rims as sturdy as B43's / deep V's? Anyone not running super deep rims??

Great rims. Can't say enough good things. If you are looking for Deep v look at CXP33

The CXP30 was the "Deep v" before the Deep V. I wish they didn't discontinue it.

The Mavic Ellipse are just as deep. Non-machined walls. Stickers are removable (at least on the 1st generation). What more could you ask for?

These were the other rims I was looking at. Nice and classy looking IMO, but was just thrown off by the low price I guess.

Nice looking rims, just trying to steer clear of deep rims for my next build.

I guess my point is that Mavic makes great rims. The fit and finish are head and shoulders above Velocity, H+Son, and others.

What the hell makes them charge so much for some deep V's and other assorted deep rims then? Is it because of style and pretty colors?

I think H+Son is a joke. It's all for show.

If you ever get a chance to compare in your hands an unbuilt Mavic rim and a H+Son rim at the same time, you'll see what I mean.

Why not get the rim that the TB14 copied? No real engineering R&D go into H+Son stuff. Do you think they have a team of engineers on staff? I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

I hate when companies try to up the value of something by either writing long paragraphs about the romance of cycling of the past or making something Limited Edition. That just adds Perceived Value for which they take extra amounts of your Real (not Perceived) Money.

They realized that if they modify your opinion of the product, they can charge you more money for it. The product HAS NOT CHANGED. Just your opinion of it.

Competitive Cyclist lives off of this. They write VOLUMES of text to woo people into paying 15-30% more for products.

But, hey, that's marketing.

The fact that there is a thread inquiring if Mavic rims are any good makes me weep a little.

Not dissing Mavic rims but when I built up my Formation Face, I was pretty impressed with the overall quality.

The ellipse is a complete wheel package, they are not sold as just rims.
