Maybe they stepped their game up. But, when last I compared the deep H+sun was thin-walled and had lots of sharp edges at the eyelets.

That's a decent selling price. But, $60 to ship? I've shipped whole bikes for that price.

That seems high to me, too. eBay sellers like to overcharge for shipping because (a) the "buy it now" price looks lower, and (b) eBay doesn't take a percentage out of the shipping cost.

eBay changed their policy to include shipping costs, I believe.

That is no longer the case. Ebay now charges a sales fee, which includes the shipping cost.

Good to know. I still sometimes see fools listing things for a "buy it now" of $5 with a $200 shipping cost. Guess the joke's on them.

My guess would be the Mavic Open Pro, which has been the rim that all others were compared to for years. It's one of those "They got it right when they made this" rims.

Well... the Open Pro is 18.4mm deep and the TB14 is 14.1mm deep. They're pretty dissimilar in rim profile.

But they both have eyelets.

So idk. Must be copied.

H Plus Son might copy other people's rims (I really don't know, and don't really care since I only buy my sw8 fixxy biek parts based on brand name), but the TB14 is defsies not a copy of the Open Pro.

The Sun actually looks similar to some older Mavic rims, such as these classic SSC's:

You can get defensive if you want. But, you have to admit that H+Sun is more likely a bunch of dudes sitting around wondering "What would look nice?" more often than they wonder "How can we make a better performing _________? "

this seems very true. they were also supposedly making a frame based on the cannondale track frame. the geo was almost exact.

back on topic.

it looks like the mavic module 3

They didnt copy anything. They just made a simple box rim. Within a range of dimensions, it looks good. Outside those, it wouldnt.
There have been plenty of rims with similar dimensions over the years.

I'm not getting defensive, I'm using the interwebz to learn. I asked what rim H Plus Son copied in the interest of knowledge. If ever I was looking for a 14mm deep rim, I would most definitely go with "real deal" Mavic over H Plus Son any day.

However, saying someone copied someone else is a hefty claim, and in this case it was unsubstantiated until your most recent post. Even still, it's not a copy because the rim width is different. Some will argue that the extra 2mm is an improvement that makes the rim perform better.

The with is different in order to avoid patent infringement. If it were an exact copy of the Reflex or the Module 3, they would hear from Mavic's lawyers. So, it's easier to make a minor change and skirt around patent law.

Name an engineer at H+Son and I'll eat my hat.

Welcome to the real world, where no one throws a fit about it when people look to others for new ideas.

You call it copying.

Sounds more like "inspiration" to me.

Actually, that's exactly what hplusson says on their site.
Saying its a copy is like saying Araya, Ambrosio, Fiamme, Campy and a pile of other rim builders copied each other through the entire 70s and 80s....which is totally true.

I've been in the real world for a long while Long enough to know not to spend my money on H+Son* when there exist better products for less money that are easier to obtain.

*No offense to H+Son owners.

I agree with you.

I just don't understand the Premium price tag when the rims you list are ubiquitous.
