I was in the market for a bike rack and was doing some research. So I came across the Velo-Grip Bike rack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTS6IoDDHI0 and I was impressed, until I saw the price $269 for a 3 bike system and $239 for a 2 bike system. so I built one myself for $90 about an hour to install.

Its not bad, of course they're going to touch. but it will take a high velocity of force to damage them. I can always keep them straight. But it saves me about a foot when I angle them.

Yeah, my first thought was how do you keep them from banging each other. Then you showed your second picture.

Yes they are Husky Velcro Straps from Home Depot for $5.99 each.

See, i live in a small apartment, which automatically limits the number of bikes i have.

i have to take some pics and show how i store them. i have 2 on the wall, one suspended over my dresser, and one hanging over a balcony. it's ridiculous.

Your methodology is flawed. Your apartment size should be determined by the number of bikes you have. If you're running out of room, it may be time for a new apartment

Nice! Although it would seem easier to get the bikes up and down if you used metal hooks instead of the velcro straps.

That was my first choice was hooks, but could not find any that rotated.

Obviously you are trying to save money so you can upgrade to something other than Treks

Good idea though.

S-hook and a swivel. That way you'd also avoid needing an extra hand to attach or detach the bikes. Not much of an issue, but if you add a particularly heavy or unwieldy bike, it would be nice to have both hands available just to maneuver the bike.
