1990 Schwinn Paramount OS
I got this frame in a trade from another C&V member. It's a 62cm, Waterford built Paramount OS. Tru Temper OS main tubes and Columbus fork. When I received the frame it had rust issues and had already been repainted. The paint was nice (although an ugly pink/purple fade), but it obviously hadn't been prepped well as was evident by the rust on the dropouts, bottom bracket shell and top tube.
I had the frame set powder coated in RAL 1003 (signal yellow) to compliment the 6400 Tri Color group I had ready to hang on it. I decided to go ahead and move from 8 speed to 9 with this bike so I'll need to source some 9 speed STIs. I'll probably go with Tiagra or Microshift if new, but I may look for something used.
I laced the hubs (32 rear, 28 front) to new Velocity Aeroheads in Ti Grey with Sapim Race spokes. The tires are Michelin Pro Race 3 (25mm). I'm excited to get it finished and on the road.
I had a lot of help from BF members on the way to getting this one finished. Thanks to:
holiday76: frameset and 6500 headset
JunkYardBike: Nitto Cr-Mo stem
RobbieTunes: hubs, skewers and dustcaps
RogerM: brake calipers
23skidoo: front dérailleur

Very nice
I worked for a Schwinn dealer at the time, and remember those requiring a 27.4mm seatpost, does this one use 27.4? The build kits at the time came with American Classic 27.4's if I recall correctly, I know they exist.
Also, as you may be aware, that model of FD was made with two cable routings (over the bolt or under it), so if the indexing doesn't jive, try the alternate routing.

Thanks, everyone! This is my first build with true racing geometry so I'm looking forward to trying something new. I need more diversity in my bike stable.
I'll have to make a new form for shaping them as the clearances are a little tight.
I have a 27.2mm post in this one and it seems to be correct. I was not aware of that regarding the FD. Thanks!

It's so much nicer with the fork coming out of the bottom of the head tube.
Amazing look to it. Yes, the RD will handle 9sp just fine. Either version of Tiagras will work fine and look good.
The first gen Tiagras are conducive to sanding and painting of the top caps, perhaps in yellow or dark grey to match the tricolor stuff.
Outstanding wheels. You will roll away from lots of modern wheels on downhills.

The 1988 Merckx Corsa I am rebuilding came with tri-color, except for the shifters and crank.
The DA crank stayed put, but I swapped the 105 shifters for a tri color set from Junkfoodjunkie.
The tri color rear derailleur shifted like butter with the 9 speed 105 shifters.
I just wanted to return the bicycle to its original condition within reason.
Colonel, that is a fabulous looking project you have there, as we have come to expect with your projects.
So many cool aspects to this build.
Please keep the pics rolling.

That looks great!! I like the color, and it looks like the coater did a good job not overdoing the coating; the lug lines still look sharp.

Now you need a little can of lime green spray paint to have a fade. Or some black stripes to go with the safty yellow. Looking good. Did you want to go STI, 9spd DT shifters are easy to get in DA or Ultegra. I'm not totally at ease with brifters yet, I may switch back and forth from DT shifters to much. I hope this comes out as nice as your dads bike, that build rocks.

Justin, I have to admit the color grows on me.
Do you plan on adding some bling in the form of decals, or do you plan to keep the "What am I?" appearance?

Bob, I'd like to add a decal on the head tube and one on the seat tube. Just the simple, period "P" decal with the letter in grey or silver and the "world" stripe above. I haven't heard back from either Velocals or Cyclomondo, though, so we'll see.

I recently took all the modern bits off my '89 OS, and put back on the original dura ace parts. The modern stuff will go on a Merckx I am building, for now.

Looking VERY Nice! Better than some of the "New" bikes I have seen in the LBS. Can't believe the number of little scratches and dings on BRAND NEW bikes that they want a LOT of money for!
Those classy old derailers can usually handle quite a range, the 79 Shimano 400FF on my LeTour handled an 8 speed I stuffed in there, but was just getting too far off-line to work right in top gear, so I went back to a 7. New tricks for old dogs.

Whoa, that is completely lust-worthy. Velocity Aerohead rims too. You don't do anything halfway, do you?
Also that Nitto stem, WOW! Is it current production?

Colonel, those bars are dangerously close to ergo bends.
