Vagabond TT-1200 ?

Hey everyone, my first post in this section. I don't exactly know if this apply's fully to this section but it was my best guess. Anyway here is a bike I have lying around and am thinking of taking for a spin because it would be awsome! Tell me what you know about this bike! This is what I found by the writing on the bike:

Bike: Vagabond TT-1200
Gears: On the gears it said Lee Chi as you can faintly tell by picture # 3
Speed: 12 speed

I came here from the dd thread

The handlebars on this bad boy are interesting - over-engineered and could probably survive coming off a 20 foot jump. This is the perfect campus run-about, I think. Don't know anything about it, but I think most thieves would turn their attention elsewhere. A good thing, huh?

Love the lock - I haven't seen one of those long ones in a dog's age.

Those handlebars are called bullmoose bars. They came on early MTBs and there are "modern" version still available.

I like the big freewheel. Is that a 32 or a 34?

Haha thank you for actually clicking on the link. And yes, one of my favorite parts is how the handlebars have that steel triangle piece before the actual handlebars and the seat is just plain weird.

@sailorbenjamin - I have no clue what a freewheel is, but maybe if you explain I could go check it out.

The gears in back, in your case the 6 gears. They catch and turn the wheel when you spin them forward and release when they spin backwards so you can freewheel, or coast. If you have a really big gear you can climb hills better. Most stop at a 28 tooth gear but my favorites go up to 34. I've got a 36 but only one derailler that can cope with it.

The Vagabond is an early mass produced mountain bicycle that was probably sold through a department store chain. Entry level, ordinary tubing with pressed drops and entry level componentry, help to define the bicycle's quality level. All that said...

The bike will be fun to ride but will not offer stunning ride quality. And, for what it is worth, Bicycles for Humanity has at least a dozen Vagabond mountain and road bikes at the moment. But that moment will come to an end on Oct 20th when we send shipment #11 to Africa.

In closing I add this - they are darn near bomb, bullet and kid proof:-)

@sailorbenjamin Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up!

@randyjawa Thanks for the info, and I guess bomb, bullet and kid proof is a pretty good thing after all. I've been looking at it a little closer and it seems like the bike will just fall apart with half a rotation. The gears look more rusted than the titanic, and the chain doesn't seem to be in the greatest condition, but what do I know? Maybe one day I'll transform it into a chick magnet and ride it to school

Yes, the bike looks like it would make for a nice, solid campus workhorse,........but you might consider taking the "Vagabond" decals off as you might not get dates with the coeds.......as though the the word kinda sounds and looks cool, "Vagabond" pretty much means travelling "Tramp" or "Bum".......
